What really stands out, though, is the way the place is managed. Shehan is incredibly welcoming, he remembers customers, checks in with a smile, and makes the whole experience feel personal. It’s rare to see service that genuine these days, and it makes a big difference. Pico is lucky to have him.“

“I love to explore cafes and breakfast place. The place lived upto my expectation, love the bakery section not overtly sweet right upto the mark. The price is little on the higher side. You have to visit this place keeping in mind that you have grab a seat yourself as it is self serve or take the food and eat in the car. We were lucky to get a place to seat with my toddler. “I've been to Yu Seafood Yorkdale several times. An upscaled restaurant near all the high-end retailers. I bought my nephew here during his business trip and everything is good, and the bill was paid without going through the details. Not until I got home and found out one of the dishes was missed out from the dinner set for six. I called the restaurant the next day and the general manager Neilson responded promptly. It could be a human error and promised to compensate on my next visit. Having said that Yu is a great place to enjoy dinner or lunch despite of the mistake they have made on my last visit.“

I haven't even tried everything in the bakery yet. It is a wonderful for breakfast, midday treat and dessert after dinner. I stock up on Sunday to have enough to last me until Thursday morning when the bakery reopens for the week. I am having a very hard time sticking to just one item a day. The restaurant continues to evolve, introducing new menu ideas and popular Filipino desserts-to-go like Taho, Buko Pandan, and Fruit Salad. Kabalen is a true gem in North York, perfect for bringing visitors to satisfy their cravings - a home away from home. One drawback though, is the accessibility. The dining area is located upstairs and the washroom is downstairs in the basement. As a result, it is not advisable for wheelchair users to dine in. Nonetheless, the establishment maintains a clean environment and is conducive for group gatherings, or for individuals like myself, who just wants to unwind after a days work.“

We order here often—as you can see from the collection of photos I’ve amassed—and I can honestly say they’ve been consistent every single time. Their wasabi is made fresh, just like their sushi.

Our daughter has been eating sashimi since she was two, and I’ve never had any concerns about the quality of the fish from this place. Her absolute favorite is the salmon ikura don, and she also loves the little octopus in one of the Inari pockets. We order so often that they even know our usual takeout (D2 and S5, with the occasional Inari Gunkan), and they recognize it instantly when my husband calls in. We’ve dined in a couple of times as well, and the staff are so friendly and warm that we felt right at home.

After a long week, it’s our go-to Friday treat. It’s always a joy to bring their sushi home, and it feels like a little bit of love is packed into every box.“

I recently checked out 老街肠粉 Millstone Rice Rolls, and I was genuinely impressed by the incredible quality of the food and the unbeatable value. The restaurant itself has a very nice and bright atmosphere, making it a comfortable and welcoming spot to grab a quick, satisfying meal. I also really loved the traditional Hong Kong-style touch right at the beginning of the meal—they provided a cup of hot water for us to rinse our utensils. It is a small detail, but an authentic and highly appreciated one.

The food is where this place truly shines. The deep-fried dough stick rice roll is an absolute 10/10. The contrast between the soft rice noodle and the crispy dough is perfect, and the sauce they pour on top is simply amazing. We also ordered the shrimp with seasoned pork rice rolls, and they were phenomenal. The sweet and savoury soy sauce was perfectly balanced, the meat was incredibly flavourful, and the freshly made rice rolls literally melted in your mouth. We also tried the dried shrimp rice rolls, which were just as delicious and packed with umami.

To round out the meal, we ordered some congee, which was comforting and hit the spot. I also got a warm soy milk, and it was incredibly fresh—perfectly sweet, rich, and creamy without being overpowering.

In this economy, finding a fulfilling and affordable meal can be tough, but Millstone Rice Rolls completely delivers on value. For two people, our entire feast came to under $50, and that includes the tip! You really cannot beat those prices for the quality and freshness you are getting.

The service was decent, but to be completely honest, it was practically non-existent. You are mostly left to your own devices once the food arrives. However, for a casual, fast-paced eatery, this wasn't a dealbreaker for us at all.

Overall, the fantastic flavours and amazing prices make this place an absolute winner. I will definitely be back to try the other rice rolls and dishes they have on their menu!
