Lucie

Lucie 100 Yonge St, Toronto French • $$$$

“Im not sure where to start on this review.

Well to say the least, it took me about 2 weeks to decide on a place to eat. My decision did not let me down. I chose this place because of the connection the Chef had to the food.

Ive traveled all around and have been to many fine restaurants and places to eat. To compare this restaurant to others, well you cannot.

If you have ever been to Montana or Wyoming, you know that you cannot describe the views. The art you get at Lucies, is comparable to the views you see. You cannot put it into words.

The service itself was as you would expect, amazing. The staff is knowledgeable about every dish that is presented to you.

What the chef, the staff, and the amazing mixologist does for you; is to say the least an art within itself.

Now I am not very good at taking pictures, but pictures would not do the dishes or drink justice anyway. For some reason google would not let me post pictures.”

“The salads we had were good. Pinsa was delicious. The place is nice with a patio. We both realized after that we felt disappointed by the service. A couple employees/owner walked past us as we stood at the door. A minute or two later someone greeted us. Then after paying and tipping quite well the sever didn’t say thank you. Seems small stuff but it’s not inexpensive to go for dinner these days and the small stuff matters more…to us.”

“Buono is an unobtrusive presence on Bayview Avenue, but when you walk in you discover a beautiful and comfortable dining space and absolutely stellar food. The wise and kind servers are professional and deliver excellent service. The food is timely, gorgeously plated, and bursting with flavor. They can accommodate vegan and gluten free diets and other dietary sensitivities or allergies if needed. Grateful to have found this Leaside treasure!

Dietary restrictions: They have corn-based gluten-free pasta”

Kaito Sushi Omakase 1211 St Clair Ave W, Toronto Sushi • $$$$
Recommended

“The quality and flavour of sushi here is fantastic.

Compared to other Omakase restaurants around $100/pp range, Kaito is more delicious. The scallop, smoked salmon and lean tuna with lime zest were standouts on the menu today (some of which were in my mouth before my camera was out)

This is an intimate and friendly experience that has a more casual atmosphere than other comparable Omakase restaurants. The space is larger than necessary and could benefit from some improvements to decor and lighting to create a better ambiance, however this is a small tradeoff for some really delicious sushi!

Note that it's very important to be at your reservation on time. I see some one star reviews from people who are upset that the restaurant couldn't accommodate them after they arrive 20 minutes late. You have to understand that service has a certain flow and the sushi is crafted fresh by the chef to be eaten right away.

Overall, this is a great place that I would happily recommend and intend on returning to!”

Grey Gardens 199 Augusta Ave, Toronto Wine Bar • $$$$

“This has been a go to special occasion meal for me for years. I can’t say I’ve ever had one disappointing dish. Everything sings with flavour - bright acidity, rich fat, balanced sweetness. Just A+ to the kitchen! This time we enjoyed oysters, a crudo I can’t recall the name of, beef tartare, and the chicken. The raw dishes here are some of my favourites and I have to say the tartare was my favourite I’ve ever had. Not the typical flavour profile instead a mix of acidic dressing and possibly beef fat mayo? Soooo good. The chicken is not something I’d typically order but it was recommended on their Insta and did not disappoint. Perfectly tender, shatteringly crispy skin, umami sauce, and the best sweet creamed corn I’ve ever had. Shout of to the gai lan as well. So good.

The service is always a big part of the experience here. We felt so looked after and I was even surprised with a scoop of apple sorbet with a candle since we didn’t order dessert (it was my bday). Just above and beyond and left feeling like I was walking on a cloud. 😌”

“The food was good. The beef tartar was amazing, as expected. We love how they roasted the bread with butter; it's crispy and flavourful. The sausage was different than we expected but in a good way. I like how they did the potato; it was soft but crunchy. The portion was okay. Two main dishes were good enough for the two of us for brunch.
The restaurant is small, so you might expect to wait 15-45 minutes.
The only minus point is that our server didn’t seem very friendly and attentive. He made us feel like we did something wrong when we asked for recommendations.”

Le Swan 892 Queen St W, Toronto French • $$

“I took my partner to this place for our four year anniversary. And I could not have made a better choice for that.

Both of us normally don’t like to eat steak and mashed potatoes, but this place genuinely serves the most amazing food despite of being steak and mashed potatoes and for the price point that you pay compared to the quality of the food, it is well beyond worth it

The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, despite obviously being our first time there they even gave us a small little drink, complementary because it was our anniversary. Definitely looking forward to bringing some friends here.

we also got a corndog appetizer because we wanted an appetizer and it was good. It’s hard to write a review on a place that’s good because of how good it is in fact if you’re still reading this review, I feel like at this point you’re just confirming whether or not it’s good.

Trust me, it’s good just go here. Ask questions later.

Vegetarian options: The restaurant does offer some minor vegetarian options, but it markets itself as a French diner and French cuisine does prefer its focus on meat.

I’d recommend you just look at the menu before you make your reservation to make sure that this would be a good choice for you

Dietary restrictions: The staff are very respectable in regards to dietary restrictions. You were given multiple opportunities to present any restrictions before the reservation and even before you start ordering anything.

Parking: The restaurant is located on Queen Street. Just passed Trinity Bellwoods Park. given the age of the neighbourhood and obviously the age of the building there isn’t any built-in parking.

But if you’re going to a place like this, you’re probably not bothered about that and if you are go somewhere else.

Kid-friendliness: given that this place operates as a bar as well as a restaurant, it might not be a kid friendly place and most of the diners and patrons are probably looking for a more adult night out.

Wheelchair accessibility: Unfortunately, given that this restaurant is located in an older building. There’s only so much that the owners can do to build out and make this place accessible and there’s only so much space that they have access to do that with.

If you’re in a wheelchair in here, it will probably be a little bit cramped. My personal suggestion is to call them beforehand and inquire about any other wheelchair accessible options for yourself.”

“We live in New Jersey but we have been to Jamaica 30 times or more. I love Jamaican food. This food was as good or better than any food I’ve eaten in Jamaica. There were 8 of us. Between us we had oxtail red bean soup, curry goat, jerk chicken, fried okra, fried plantains, jerk fries with aioli sauce, chicken curry, slow baked jerk wings and 4 of the deserts. Everything was seasoned well. The spice levels were perfect. Savory and delicious. The reception and service were welcoming and enthusiastic. The ambiance felt truly Jamaican. “What an unreal experience at a Michelin star restaurant – truly culinary art at its finest. This was everything fine dining should be about: impeccable service, an elegant atmosphere, and unforgettable food. Our waiter, Naz, was outstanding and made my wife’s birthday feel extra special. The best part? They catered perfectly to our halal dietary preferences, which was a huge plus. The menu was beautifully curated, and my personal favorites were the wagyu beef and the egg dish. And I can’t forget to mention the bread – so fresh, paired with their incredible butter and olive oil. Just an amazing night all around. Thanks for making the bday experience unforgettable!”

“We visited Aanch Restaurant for a post-Diwali dinner, and it was a fantastic experience!

I ordered:

- Rose Lassi - Super thick and delicious; just the right balance of sweetness. (11/10)
- Paan Licious Drink - Beautifully presented and perfectly strong. (10/10)
- Basil Paneer Tikka - The paneer was definitely made in-house, incredibly soft and marinated to perfection before being cooked in the tandoor. (11/10)
- Papad Chaat - A unique twist on a classic. (7/10)
- Badal Jaam Bruschetta - Very different and flavorful. (7/10)
- Kadhai Paneer with Chilli Naan - The highlight of the night! We requested an 8/10 spice level, and they delivered INDIA-LEVEL spice. Truly authentic and delicious! (100/10)

The authentic North Indian flavors were spot on, with spices that transported us back to India, not just the usual chilli flakes. Our non-vegetarian friends were seriously jealous; they admitted the veg food was outstanding—rare to find such quality here in Toronto.

The staff was attentive and welcoming, and they even surprised us with complimentary mango kulfi for Diwali! We also took biryani to-go, can’t wait to try it.

Highly recommend this place for its authentic North Indian flavors, attentive service, and memorable food experience. Will definitely be back!”

“I visited this popular Tibetan restaurant on a Saturday night. They only accept walk-ins, no reservations. We had to wait for 1 hour so be aware of the long wait times.

We ordered:
1. Yellow Laphing Dry with => Very unique and tasty dish. Crunch of WaiWai was also nice.
2. Veg => Hands down. One of the best Chowmein ever. Select mild spicy level. Their medium spicy level is too much.
3. Veg Sizzler with Szechuan sauce: 3/5 => Too oily. The Momos were bland in itself. With noodles, it was good.
4. Chilli Garlic => Very good. Large portions too.

“Just had to share - my little boy and I had an amazing lunch together while waiting for my husband to finish the waterfront marathon! It was bustling with runners and their families, but the staff did a fantastic job keeping everything organized and cheerful.

I decided to try the original Donkatsu, and wow, it was one of the best I've ever had outside of Japan and Korea! The portions were quite generous, and the flavor was just heavenly. My 4-year-old enjoyed it so much that he gobbled up almost half of my dish!

To top it off, the staff was incredibly sweet to my little guy. If you love Donkatsu and have kids, you absolutely have to check this place out. Highly recommend!

“Great food, friendly and attentive service, and a more refined setting compared to most Indian restaurants downtown. Our server was incredibly engaged, taking us through the menu and offering thoughtful recommendations.

We ordered from the à la carte menu and particularly enjoyed the lahsuni palak paneer; the homemade cheese in the nutty sauce was delicious. The keema pao was flavourful, though the buns could have been softer and fresher, and the laal goscht was tasty, though the oxtail could have used a bit more meat.

While the food was delicious overall, we found the drinks (the entire beverage menu) and sides (naan and rice) to be overpriced, which inflated the overall bill. That aside, it’s a great spot for a special meal, especially if you’re looking for unique dishes and a more upscale experience.”

We ordered:
5. Steamed Veg Momos with Manchurian sauce: 4/5 => Very good.

Le Swan

“Diner Seoul is a perfect place for those who enjoy Korean cuisine, but would like to try another take at it. You can tell that the chef tries different ideas and creates their version of the familiar dishes, and I think that deserves many stars for a city like Toronto where there aren't too many innovators. I'm hoping that they have interesting dishes for different seasons, for I'd like to see what ideas that the chef has.

The restaurant itself is a cute, small and cozy space with about 24 seats available. I visited with about 16 people and had a great time ?

as well as my avocado bruschetta had huge chunks of garlic on it, which i never got before.
other than that, food is good. just go earlier in the day.”

“The interior design is done beautifully with lots of unique decors like posters, cherry blossoms, very modern yet also traditional, lots of greens as well to look at. The seating areas is clean and comfortable, and can accommodate many people. The food presentation is very pleasing to look at, and everything is provided for you immediately.

Their staff seems to be mostly Korean so if you can speak Korean you can. 서버는 한국어를 할 수 있습니다. Since they are Korean they are used to the Korean restaurant style so they may not come to your table too often but they are always looking at your tables, if you raise your hand they will come as soon as possible. (If its busy you can yell “jogiyo / 저기요”)

Overall this is a really nice restaurant to relax in and take in the atmosphere while enjoying some sushi.”

“Went for a wrestling event, I don’t think the server expected to accommodate that many people for a Saturday evening. The bartender did the best she could, scurrying to serve us rowdy fans while batting away impatient patrons asking for food ordered 20-30 prior, bless her kind heart. I wasn’t expecting much either, considering I ate prior to the event and just wanted a beer. The menu is…basic, in a word, but ended up ordering the 3 piece chicken strips with fries. Took 35 minutes, and almost gave up. But when the food came…my word was this good. Chicken fried crispiness but still tender to enjoy the natural juicy flavour with each bite. The fries were seasoned to compliment whatever they had going with the chicken, potato and deep fry ratio done where it still retains its toasty flavour 10 minutes all after the fact. 100% worth the wait. It’s been two weekends since this event and I’m still thinking about how good that order was. I dont know if they’ve taken down their Halloween decor yet but if you’re in the Bloor/Dundas West area and come across this bar, please give their food a try. And remember to tip the bartender, lord knows she deserves it :)”

KŌST 80 Blue Jays Way 44th Floor, Toronto American • $$$

“I lived there for over a year. The best part of the building was the helpful and friendly concierge team. The biggest downfall was that myself and some friends rented the party room for our wonderful annual Christmas dinner where we all brought our own dish to share with friends. We had asked if it was okay to move the two big adjacent tables together so we could have a nice dinner set up. After getting the okay from the Bisha staff we moved the tables together lengthwise. At the time of moving the tables I noticed that some parts l, specifically the legs where loose. Anyways, at the end of the night we decided we would leave the room exactly the way we had found it by putting the tables back into their former positions. We moved the table maybe 2 inches when the one table just exploded. The force of the table hitting the ground caused a chain reaction and the other table also then shattered. It was TERRIBLE. There was glass everywhere, my friend suffered a huge cut and we had to seek medical attention. After the incident we had offered to clean up the mess and we’re then denied by management the opportunity to assist. We where assured it would be dealt with by the building as accidents do happen. Months later they send us a bill for over $20,000 dollars. They even tried to blame us for scrapes on walls which is unfair when the building staff failed to do a proper routine inspection with us prior to entry, a fault of their own. Absolutely pathetic and tragic. As I was moving out I noticed they where doing renovations to floors, walls etc. Its pretty sad they used us as a scapegoat to fix their dated deco and furniture. I can't believe the building management would actually pursue such a substantial and ridiculous amount of money when at the end of the day we were ensured it wouldn't be an issue and offered to clean and help even tho the table broke as a complete freak accident. Be careful with these people.”
