In addition to restructuring their business to remain somewhat open but safe for themselves and their patrons, they’ve been a voice above the racial hate and injustice the world has been forced to finally confront. When things got too bad, both Becky and Ryan have been around to help ease the anxiety and despair to not only those in Toronto, but all the way down in the southwest USA (virtually of course). Even if they themselves are going through the same if not worse hell that we’re in. “Such a unique cocktail experience! Went to Bar Chef with my girlfriend and had an amazing time. We went with the $90 tasting menu, which honestly felt like a great deal considering it included both the Contemporary Cocktails and Modernist experiences.

We tried the Confectionery and the Nitro-Chilled Dirty Vetiver Martini, and both were incredibly well thought out. The attention to detail was what really stood out, every cocktail had carefully considered components, textures, aromas, and flavours that made each drink feel like its own experience.

Overall, highly recommend to anyone who appreciates creative mixology.“

“Very cool place. All the staff was very good at their job, Taya was our waitress. She was awesome in my opinion. The food was good. The triple pepperoni pizza was really good. Make sure you get the hot honey sauce. The mozzarella sticks were really good and fresh. The rigatoni pasta was mid, The noodles were still a little hard maybe I just got a bad batch. The drinks were not strong but overall 5 stars still. I would definitely return!“

“Amazing speakeasy bar inside another bar. Very chic, amazing cocktails. Phoenix is recommended if you like spiced rum they also have dessert cocktails, which was a first for me. The bartender is super knowledgeable and can whip up anything, on and off the menu. They even gave us complementary shots. Overall a great experience, but please make reservations before you go“

“neighbourhood gem! very family-friendly atmosphere with a thoughtful team. the menu is refreshingly concise and i loved how calm and composed the kitchen feels. the space is casual and clearly considered (unfussy but you can tell there’s care behind what they’re putting out).

we ordered the fish and veg, cheeseburger, caesar salad and two desserts.

the corn salad was exquisite and the trout was nicely done, though the skin was a touch underwhelming — not sure what happened there, maybe it was left a little too long before being served, as the skin had lost its crispness by the time it reached the table. the squeeze of lemon was definitely welcome, though; that little touch of acidity really helped.

the cheeseburger was simple but done right as was the caesar salad. can’t ask for anything more, really.

the desserts were probably the only miss for me. the mango soft serve didn’t quite hit the spot, while the raspberry compote hit the back of the palate strikingly too acidic. same with the strawberry coulis on the no-bake cheesecake. the actual cheesecake was good, but nothing grand.

service was wonderful. everyone was attentive without hovering, and lindsey was genuinely the sweetest server ever. it also seemed like the rest of the team had a great handle on their tables. everyone seemed happy, even while stranded in the middle of a thunderstorm!

overall, still five stars despite the desserts not quite hitting the mark. i’d love to see a really good drip coffee on the menu, too — would’ve been a nice way to end the meal.

“Learned about this place from Too Good To Go app and decided to come here for lunch with a friend. It is a little hard to spot since it is hidden in a small street. We heard this place just open a month ago, so might explain why the place wasn't too busy. Good for us, since we could sit by the cozy lounge area. I got the Avocado Toast, and my friend the Mediterranean Cauliflower. The Toast was super balanced and beautiful (and so much avocado!). The Cauliflower had a lot of components and was very filling. We both agreed the food was 10/10. if you coming for Cocktail, would recommend the Amethyst and the Carribean Sour!“

“My wife and I came here for our first anniversary, and this turned out to be an incredible evening. We had a great dinner. We found the place, food, and the ambience to be incredibly good. We could feel the difference brought by a Michelin Star restaurant. The Sheesh Tawook, chicken kebebab, and veal tikka's were sublime. Cooked, yet so tender, and had such amazing flavour.

Appetizers were also really really good.

They gave us the date cake for the anniversary, very nice of them. It was just amazing.

We certainly plan on going there again. We didn't order any lamb or other stuff as reviewers said there is some odor (which is natural for that meat, I believe) but this was just an amazing evening.

“I have been coming to cactus for many years for all my girlfriends’ birthdays and my anniversary, but this dining experience was above and beyond. Our waitress, Rachael, made sure that we were well taken care of and had the loveliest energy. She was so pleasant and kind to us the whole evening, and was able to tell us exactly what my husband was able to eat with all his food sensitivities. We trusted her advice and tried a new dish which we loved. We hope to see her again when we come“

“Met friends at Lulu Bar on Wellington Street for recently and very much enjoyed the vibes, good cocktails and light bites to eat during their afternoon (3-6pm) happy hour period. Opening hours are 11.30am to late each evening. Drinks were all just fine. We were very happy with the food servings which were presentable and honestly all very good. Edamame, broccolini, kale salad, pork belly and burger were all good. Service friendly and timely, prices quite good during the happy hour period. Found Lulu to be a fun place to meet up with friends during happy hour. This is a good venue, one we'd be happy to revisit during future trips to Toronto.“

“Me and my husband found this bar looking for speakeasy’s in Toronto. Whilst the drinks were good and the staff great, we were quite disappointed by the term “speakeasy”. We were very excited when the confirmation email for our booking said that we were supposed to go into a yoghurt shop and order for number 8, because this felt very much like speakeasy’s we’ve been to before. However, when we got there, the lady simply asked us if we wanted to get into the bar. The music was also very loud and it felt a bit overcrowded which made it feel more like any popular bar than a hidden speakeasy. So, drinks were good and it’s a nice bar in general, but I wouldn’t go as far as to recommend it if you’re looking for a speakeasy ://“
