One bite instantly transported me back to my first visit in New York, when I confidently poured the whole packet over my platter without thinking… then ended up standing on the sidewalk with tears in my eyes.

“He was doing renovations a couple of months ago..I was expecting dine in tables, but it remained the same with a couple of chairs and a shelf by the window.

The chef is only in Canada for a year, so I highly recommend that if you want delicious authentic Pakistani food, that you make it a point to visit before that... because this chef from Lahore doesn't disappoint.

You can dine in with a real plate instead of using take out containers.

“I finally was able to attend UMI's Kitchen after so many attempts by UBER and DoorDash as it always says unavailable. I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by. I thought it was located more east on Dundas but it's actually near Dundas and Sherbourne. Toronto has tried to revive the neighborhood but, it has the same energy. I was lucky as parking is street parking so expect to park and run in to get your order. It looked closed when I got out and the door is not new but, I got in. It isn't a big place but the lady who got my order was pleasant. I ordered a small Oxtail (not cheap no more), side bbq chicken, 1 veggie and 1 beef patty, small chicken soup (good), Pineapple soda. I thought the salad would be handled but no salad like no coleslaw! I was like wow. The food is good. I really enjoyed the veggie patty wish I had gotten three of them. The bbq chicken was nice. Not hot but, it was a great add to my Oxtail meal. I was glad I finally could say I gave this place a try. I am sure others will attend. The area isn't the most desired place to attend but, it's about the food which for this day was my goal.“

Anyway, I decided one weekend to give it a try, with all that hype and crowd surrounding it. We waiting quite a bit for a table, since we were around 8 persons. We got aloo, egg and chicken parathas. All were pretty amazing. Aloo one was definitely my favorite. Chicken was okay, just a little dry for my liking.
Beef nihari was delicious and so was the chicken tikka masala. The ones that stole the show were the daal and Chana. Perfect, reminded me of my Pakistani breakfasts in Saudi.

“Personally I’m not one to leave reviews but my experience was so good I just have to share it.

As I walked into this establishment i was warmly greeted by Ahmed. He walked me through the menu and recommended me the wings and the southpaw burger. Unfortunately he was a one man army serving 12 guests ahead of me. He told me that it would be 15 mins. Personally I was impressed by his attitude and efficiency to also be able to get everything out on time. When picking up the food after 16 mins he apologized for the wait and handed us our freshly cooked food which smelt amazing.

The wings were crispy yet juicy, I also enjoy that the batter was not too thick, and the burger was fresh and tasty. Everything was properly seasoned and tasted amazing.

I would rate it a strong 9/10. Theres not a single thing i could say about the food, price or customer service as they were all amazing. The only thing i could say would need work would be ambiance and decoration.“

The deal was for National Shawarma Day, Oct 15th and it was a moderate line up at lunch time at the Bloor St. and Sherbourne Ave. location.

I had to wait a long time because two people in front of me ordered 4 and 6 shawarmas! But they looked good. Unfortunately the portion of my shawarma box felt small in comparison to other box deals at other shawarma places. Still glad I got it!

The place had several tables to dine in and I liked the big front windows. I also loved that they had their own spring water bottles! So only criticism was service was slow and portions were small. But it was $5!“
