The ramen scene in Toronto is getting pretty saturated. Despite the growing competition, most shops continue to keep their prices high compared to Japan.

Kinton is a refreshing exception.
Without compromising on quality or taste, they have actually managed to lower their prices by adopting smart business practices. Whether you're dining in or ordering out, they deliver solid value and consistency.

“Nice spot for ramen. Everything tasted fresh and the broth has so much flavour! They have a few vegan broth options to choose from and their fries are nice and crispy! We were told that it had a lot of truffle, but truthfully I found that it was lacking a truffle flavour. The staff were really nice and patient with our questions. Their potato croquette is delicious and you can ask for vegan mayo! Price is good for the portion size, I was so full. There is ample seating at the restaurant, but the spot that I was shown had a ripped seat, so I hope they get new seats! I’d definitely visit again!“

She is the definition of grace under pressure, always smiling, going the extra mile and all of that while servicing multiple tables single handedly.

Food here has always been consistent, enjoyed the tsukemen and will miss it in the winter. The karaage is always done right.

“We had such a wonderful meal at Oji Seichi, and honestly, everything about the experience was top notch. From the moment you walk in, you can tell how thoughtfully the entire place has been curated. The space is beautifully aesthetic, with a distinctly Japanese feel, and even the little details throughout the restaurant make it feel like so much more than just a place to grab a meal.

They also have an amazing selection of restaurant merchandise and gift bags, along with frozen items you can take home and make yourself, including gyoza and noodles. There are also bottles of chili oil and different sauces, which made it very tempting to stock up before leaving!

The staff were incredible—so friendly, attentive and genuinely excited to chat with us about the menu. They walked us through their process, shared recommendations and explained some of their speciality items, which made the whole experience feel really personal.

We started with the chicken katsu sandwich, which was absolutely delightful. The dankatsu sauce was tangy and salty, the cabbage was shredded super thin, and the pickled daikon added the perfect crunchy, slightly acidic bite. The steamed bun was fluffy and soft and brought everything together perfectly. We added fries to the sandwich, which came with their nori ranch—a really fun twist on a traditional ranch. It had so much flavour, and you can tell their sauces are made in-house.

The standout for me, though, was the spicy sesame ramen. It started as a seasonal special but was so popular that they ended up putting it on the permanent menu—and for very good reason. The broth was incredibly rich and flavourful with the perfect amount of spice. It had a real kick, but it wasn’t so spicy that you couldn’t actually enjoy the flavours. The noodles were chewy, fresh and had exactly the right texture. The pork belly practically fell apart and had this beautiful grilled flavour, while the egg was perfectly jammy in the middle—exactly what you want in a bowl of ramen.

You can tell that every component here has been carefully considered, from the food and sauces to the atmosphere and the service. Nothing feels like an afterthought, and that attention to detail really comes through.

They even have a loyalty program where your 11th ramen is free, which is dangerous because I will absolutely be taking advantage of that!

I’ll definitely be going back again and again—not just for the delicious food, but also because the staff were so warm and fun to chat with. Oji Seichi is one of those places where you leave already thinking about what you’re going to order next time. Absolutely loved it!“

“Service was excellent and the food was good. dining experience was clean, modern and well lit. really appreciated having a sink nearby to wash up. i must say though the pricing is far too high. if I'm gonna spend 10 bucks on a packet of ramen that costs 25 cents there needs to be more to the experience like a few free toppings. rice should be free since that basically costs nothing to make. i enjoyed myself but it's a one time experience for me due to cost alone. i recommend others give it a try.“

It is the type of place that works especially well when you are looking for something warm and satisfying, especially on a colder day when a bowl of ramen feels like the right choice.

The ramen is the main highlight, and the bowls come out flavorful with rich broths and generous portions. The Tonkotsu King stood out for its deeper, savory broth and overall balance with the noodles. The ramen has that comforting quality where the flavors feel familiar but still have enough character to make the meal memorable. There are also plenty of options depending on what you are craving, from richer tonkotsu styles to spicier bowls like the Orochong ramen. The vegetarian options also feel like they are given real attention rather than being an afterthought.

Beyond ramen, the menu has a good variety of Japanese comfort food. The katsu curry is another standout, with a flavorful curry sauce paired well with the crispy katsu. The miso soup and side salad that come alongside add a nice balance to the meal. They also have a bubble tea corner, which is a fun addition and makes it easy to order a drink with your meal without having to go elsewhere.

Service was one of the stronger parts of the experience. The staff were friendly, attentive, and kept things moving even when the restaurant was busy. The simple set with ramen and chashudon is generous and satisfying, and the yuzu cheesecake is a great dessert finish, bright and citrusy, with just the right amount of sweetness. “🍜 **Ajisen Ramen | Midland & McNicoll**

Finally got to try Ajisen Ramen after hearing so many good things about it. I came in with pretty high expectations, especially after having Japanese food in Japan.

The restaurant is small and simple, but I actually liked the minimalist Japanese atmosphere. It felt cozy and authentic.

We ordered Ajisen Ramen with a little spice, Beef Gyudon, Takoyaki, Crispy Gyoza, Chicken Karaage, Pork Tonkatsu Curry, Steak Teppanyaki, and Chicken Fried Rice.

**Beef Gyudon 🥩🍚**
Really good! The beef was tender, juicy, and had that familiar Japanese style flavor. I personally would have liked it a little saltier, but overall, a solid gyudon.

**Takoyaki 🐙**
One of my favorites of the night! The flavor and texture reminded me of the takoyaki we had in Japan. I just wished there were a little more octopus inside, but I would definitely order this again.

**Crispy Gyoza 🥟**
Crispy, tasty, and exactly what you would expect from a classic gyoza. Good, but probably not something I would specifically come back for.

**Ajisen Ramen 🍜**
The noodles were perfectly cooked and the broth had a nice balance with a subtle spicy kick. It had a more authentic Japanese character compared with many ramen places here in Canada.

It didn’t blow me away, but that may be because my expectations are high after trying ramen in Japan. Still, I really enjoyed it.

**Chicken Karaage 🍗**
Another highlight! Perfectly fried on the outside while staying juicy and tender inside. Great seasoning and a very authentic taste. Crispy, juicy, flavorful, and not greasy. Definitely a must order for me.

**Pork Tonkatsu Curry 🍛**
This one surprised me. My first bite didn’t impress me much, but the more I ate, the more I liked it. By the end, I was loving it!

The curry had a comforting depth of flavor, and the tonkatsu was perfectly cooked, crispy outside and juicy inside without being overcooked. This dish actually made me appreciate Japanese curry more.

**Steak Teppanyaki 🥩**
Cooked perfectly medium rare, juicy and flavorful. Good teppanyaki, although I wouldn’t consider it a premium steak.

**Chicken Fried Rice 🍳**
Good and flavorful, but not one of my favorites. I would choose the gyudon over this on my next visit.

Ajisen Ramen gave us a really enjoyable Japanese dining experience. Not every dish was a wow moment, but everything was good, the staff were friendly, and the prices were very reasonable.

“Grabbed a late lunch here on Saturday around 2pm and the place was still buzzing, which says something about the food. Went with the Kinton Ramen classic and the tare was rich without being heavy, plus the chashu was perfectly soft, not chewy at all. Staff kept the pace moving even with a line out the door, checking in without hovering, which I appreciate after eating at way too many ramen spots on the road. Seating was tighter than I expected given the crowd, but the open kitchen setup gave the whole space a nice energy that made the wait worth it.“
