Really great products but sitting out here by the front door for a half an hour now as the website says it is open at 8am and doesn’t open until 8:30am so I discovered!
We tried to arrange to have a lunch catered to the Nurses at North York General Hospital for the Chemo Unit. We had gone through the website to pick out what we wanted to order for a beautiful lunch for these women. The site had issues so I asked my husband to call them directly today to put an order for $900.00 . The person that he spoke to told us that he could not do what we had asked him to do . For every question that was asked he said no too. As he was told that we had made our choices from the lunch menu that was offered on the site . Again he proceeded to tell us that we could not have the simple items that we had chosen from THEIR MENU. All he kept saying was that he and we could not do it . No reason why what so ever . Why do you have choices listed on YOUR site if the customer cannot choose what yet want ? It was deplorable what was done today . I have never ever had a catering company treat us in such a dismissive way before. How many others has this happened to using your services? The owner maybe needs to see what his employees are doing and the dismissive way that customers are being treated. It was not a small order by any means . I was absolutely disgusted that this happened. I own a business and if my employee treated a customer like that over a phone they would be dismissed immediately. This is not a good look Mr McEwan for your company . I will never recommend this restaurant or their catering services to anyone personally or for business . Simply classless .
I ordered form McEwan's for the first time. Everything that they had made (ready made dinners, roasted chicken etc.) was terrible! I buy from Summerhill's Market regularly and most of their meals (not all) are delicious. The McEwan roasted chicken was so small I laughed out loud and the skin was not crispy. Their beef stew was bleh but their mac and cheese was awful. The parts of my order I liked were the Blackbird breads. The service was great, the people lovely. But I won't buy from them again.
Wonderfully talented - and taking a stand for freedom !! ???
I had a great experience with the staff at McEwan. They answered all my questions, made great suggestions, and we're very accomodating when it came to my order. Their food is very delicious and fresh. I enjoy food, and the flavour combination that they provide is so well balanced. Try their food, you won't regret it!
Some items you can't find anywhere else, you can't get a greater selection of ready made/ready to eat foods anywhere. However, don't sell me the same shelf bread for $4 more than Metro. I'm guessing their customers don't care about price though....
I received an e-mail concerning home delivery and due to covid and not going out, my family was thrilled. We started making orders with them regularly. I do not like butter on my chicken so I asked and they said they can make an Italian spiced one instead using olive oil. It tasted very good and I was a happy customer. Then problems arose. Instead of the consistency that Mark McEwan promoted as head judge on Top Chef Canada and other shows, at his own grocery store, there was NO consistency at all. Sometimes the chicken was bland and I could see next to no spices were put. Other times the opposite as if a bucket of spices were thrown on. I liked having enough sauce and sometimes there was enough and other times practically none. Sometimes during all this I stayed quiet but other times I thought it would be best to have a better result next time by speaking up. It never helped. It was like I never wrote. They would say they would tell the chef and that was it. I said perhaps I can speak to someone and have them check each time to ensure done right. That was never responded to. There were countless other mistakes and things they did, like putting the wrong dressing in the wrong salad containers and then upping the prices on us for other items by pretending only the containers changed. We were able to live with those things. . Anyhow eventually after they knew I relied on their chickens especially due to covid, they said they won't make me those Italian chickens any longer. I was always polite in my e-mails but they wouldn't budge. I literally have not left the house due to covid. Our mom is 95 so we don't want to take chances and I have health issues too. I wrote them an e-mail to show compassion, even giving out personal info. They never even replied. I resent it to ensure recieved. Mark McEwan did not respond to the e-mail I wrote him either. All I wanted were Italian spiced chickens consistently good. Mark McEwan's chefs found that impossible to do. If this was his show, the chefs would have been eliminated. He and his staff lack compassion even during these trying times.
Generous and kind friends of ours had delivered to us a huge order of prepared food items from the McEwan Group last month for my husband, who had major surgery, who was not mobile for a couple of weeks and to give me a break from cooking. The following is a list of the food we received and their quality: - Grilled Salmon (2 pieces) w. veg & potatoes: Salmon was greasy, tasteless & dry, sides, no flavour. - Prime Rib meat pie: Yucky tasting, spices are off and my husband got a mouthful of dry nutmeg. - Pizza: tasteless and crust like cardboard - Veal meatballs: tasteless and dry, tomato sauce, too sweet - Tomato Sauce jar: poor flavour, too sweet, too commercial tasting, Prego off the No Frills shelf is better. - Asparagus & potato sides: no flavour whatsoever. So sorry Mr. McEwan, it appears that there is no quality control.
Ordered Christmas turkey dinner. Turkey roll reminiscent of deli meat. Not enough mashed potatoes, veg just okay and gravy so salty it was inedible. Never again!

Love the large cheese offerings and all the prepared foods you can buy and heat up at home. Their various made dips and spreads are delicious like their hummus. Fresh fruit and vegetables are displayed beautifully and their are gorgeous fresh florals too,
Police overpaid so they make me think I was there and do not remember morons
There is no grocery store quite like McEwan’s. It is bright and airy. It’s crazy clean and everyone is so helpful and nice. When I ask for something they take me right to it. Their selections of everything are the best is the best and truthfully for a high end shop their prices do not gouge you. I am a huge fan of their cheese selection from Cheese Boutique. Vast array of treats and omg the veg are top notch. This is also a store that gives back. They are so generous at helping feed those in need. Yet another great reason to put your dollars here. We ordered our Christmas turkey dinner through McEwan Catering and everything about it was DELICIOUS. It was delivered on time, the instructions were specific and clear. I would do it again and I highly recommend it.
I pre-ordered food 5 days before a Christas Eve party and had arranged to pick it up at 9 am Christmas Eve. I arrived at the store at 845 and was told they had to bring it downstairs from their catering area and that I was early. So I shopped around the store for other items I needed. Went back to the counter and was told it hadn’t arrived yet. At 9:20 I inquired again as to where my order was. A female behind the counter spoke to another man about it at which time he informed me they had made a mistake and my order had not been prepared. For a company that prides itself on catering and food this was unbelievable. No attempt to make it right..no attempt to provide alternatives. Would not use them again....completely unreliable in my opinion... maybe it’s a “one off” but I can only review what happened in my situation. No professionalism whatsoever in even trying to rectify it.
