I just noticed the recent 1 star reviews and realized that my purchase here yesterday was not just a 1 off. I've been a repeat customer for a few years and the croissants have always been butter and crisp. Yesterday morning I bought 3 chocolate almond croissants. I didn't look at them until I got home because this place has always been 5 stars for me. They were flat and soggy. I was shocked. It was almost $20 I spent on these. I thought maybe they were day olds and the thought crossed my mind to return to the bakery but being a small business and their past track record, I thought I would just let it go. Today I see from another review that it's under new ownership. I might try this place 1 more time but if this happens again, I will be going elsewhere!

We live 3 hours away, but always order pastries to pick up on our way into the GTA. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! I maybe should have known when the person taking the order seemed very different and not understanding. Our favourites have always been the fruit danishes. They were always wonderful and well worth the price. Now they are more expensive and HORRIBLE - well maybe acceptable for $3 at a fast food kiosk. The authenticity, professionalism and quality of the previous ownership is sorely missing.

New owners thought they could buy a reputable business, cut corners, and maximize profits. No, no, no my friends. They’ll be out of business in 6 months. Stick to what you know!

I went in looking for good French croissants. What they sell is the soft grocery store style croissants. They might say the croissants are baked on site, but based on what I ate, I think the croissants came from a box pre-made. (meaning they bake them, not make them)

I don't know how they are selling 2 days old croissants and people are actually eating them without complaining.

Firstly, the pastries were not as fresh as I expected. I purchased a few different items, and each one seemed stale, as if they had been sitting out for a while. The croissant was particularly disappointing—dry and lacking the buttery, flaky texture that makes a good croissant.

The service was also subpar. The staff seemed uninterested and inattentive, and I had to wait longer than expected to be served, even though the shop wasn’t busy. When I asked a question about one of the pastries, the response was curt and unhelpful.

Lastly, the prices do not reflect the quality of the products. I don't mind paying a premium for quality baked goods, but the pastries here were not worth the cost.

Unfortunately, I have never been in this pastry when it was managed by the former owners, and the negative reviews are not lying, the croissants are not good at all way overpriced, not to mention the front desk young girl not friendly to welcome you, I only been there 3 times as I gave this place 2 more chances but sorry, an unpleased person to greet you, food is not good and you pay an unreasonable price, I can get a much better fresh baked croissant at Cobs for half of the price and more friendly people that value and know how to welcome and treat their customers.

Sad to say the croissants are not what they used to be. They are nothing like a true buttery French croissant - more like a boxed version from a grocery store.

I write this as I sit eating an almond croissant I just bought from this place that used to be exceptional but is now border line mediocre.

It still “looks” the same but everything about this place that made it special has changed. It’s a shell of what it used to be and has no soul left. Everything from the baked goods (which have significantly shrunk and dropped in quality) to the service has considerably worsened.

I knew this place was going to change owners and really wanted them to succeed to maintain the legacy here. They haven’t.

I’ve been going here for years and this was my favorite place for croissants. I don’t think I’ll be coming back here unless the new owners turn this place around.

I’ve been enjoying their treats for more than 20 years… Since it was downtown Oakville. Unfortunately, under the new management, the quality is unrecognizable. The bags of small butter cookies are mostly broken and some even undercooked. The croissants are no longer proofed properly and look bulbus or flat. The chocolates are sloppy and no longer delicious. Everything just looks like it was made without the expertise that had made this place so special in the past. I’m so sad that the owners sold to owners who could not maintain their amazing quality. Kirkland Trail mix packets for sale on the counter?! There is nothing quaint or French about this “patisserie” anymore.

Really kind staff but was served an awful, dry and stale pastry that was inedible. Threw the whole thing away.

First time going here after a recommendation. Way overpriced for the quality of the food. I got a selection of items - including frozen pastries to take home and bake. The fresh items were okay, but not something I would return for. You can get a better croissant from a random coffee shop. The frozen pastries were some of the worst I've ever had. Completely flat, underbaked (after following their own baking instructions), and not flaky at all. I won't be returning.

It’s not the same bakery or quality of pastries. We were loyal regular customers for years and it was disappointing to hear about the change in ownership. But we decided to give it a try and support the local business under the new ownership. Don’t think we are going back any time soon and will need to find another place. Croissants are not flakey, they taste kind of average, and maybe it’s ok, but not if you tried Jean-Luc’s pastries.
I also find it misleading that there is no change to the website and it is still referencing Jean-Luc as a French Pastry chef.
I hope the people who bought this established business with a good customer base will figure it out. I wish them well but I will wait before I go back again.

Thought it was a one off as I've never had a bad croissant or pastry there before. Bought one recently and it was soggy, not flaky, and didn't taste fresh even though it was newly baked from the cooling racks. Then found out the place was sold which explains the bad quality. Doubt whoever bought it is a French pastry chef. Won't be back.

We used to love this bakery. Although it was on the pricier side, the quality of the pastries was absolutely worth it (previously).

On my more recent visits, I noticed that the chocolate eclairs were depressed, much flatter than they used to be. The flavour was alright but the presentation is lacking - it's not really something I could bring to a get-together with friends. We also got the raisin swirl pastries and the chocolat au pain. The chocolat au pain might as well have been a plain croissant. There were two measly sticks of chocolate in the whole croissant, which also now tastes and feels as if it isn't made with real butter.

We missed Monica's friendly presence at the store and asked about her, when we learned that ownership had changed. It seems that new ownership has maintained the higher prices but not the high quality. I would not recommend this patisserie anymore.
