My first visit to The Crepe Kitchen was for breakfast this morning. One of their regular customers told me about the place, saying all good things, and so I had to try it. Delicious food and lovely smooth rich coffee done properly in a French Press. I'll be back.

The Crepe Kitchen is one of our favourite brunch spots! I often go with my daughters and they absolutely love it. We feel so welcomed every single time we visit, which makes the experience even more special. The food is exceptional, it is fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared, and the service is always friendly and attentive. A perfect place for a relaxed family brunch. Highly recommend

This is our absolute favourite spot for sweet crepes! Best crepes we have had and nothing quite compares. There is often a wait and reservations can't be made but it is 100% worth the wait :)

Pretty and cozy place for a cold morning. Good and comforting food. Coffee is simple; not as fancy as Coffee chains but the bean is premium and smells great!
Will be there again soon!! 😃

Terrible experience. Very limited options for kids. I asked the owner to remove ham from the ham and cheese sandwich so my kid can eat it. He refused saying they don't do that. With these prices and that type of attitude it's no surprise the place was empty.

Brunch was great. I ate more then expected, and the seating was as comfy as it looked. I could not adjust my tie in the washroom however as the mirror was smudged.

The food was pretty good but I was expecting a lot more, especially considering the crepe was almost $35 with tax and tip.

It’s hard to know how I’m supposed to compliment the food I’ve just eaten.

I think back to how I would normally do it, and I think of this outdated method of five stars and some words that sound right: “fantastic,” “delicious,” and whatnot; but I know that would be some sort of crime. My conscience just whispers: “No, no. We can do better than that.”

You see, this is only a review of the first bite, because within that alone, I was hit by a flavour combination so stunning that, on some mystic autopilot, I put down my knife and fork and clapped.

Just me and my friend in the restaurant, first through the door this morning; and there I was, quietly applauding before I’d even fully understood what had happened… at the edge of an out-of-body experience, watching myself do it.

I didn’t know exactly what I was clapping to; my hands were raised hovering over the crêpe in this slow, dawning recognition. Was I about to combine my hands in prayer but forgetting they had to stay together to do that? Was I applauding the kitchen staff, none of whom were looking at me? Or was I just buffering while I thought: “Why am I meta-thinking a crêpe bite?”

Thankfully, the restaurant’s cuckoo clock began striking ten, and by the final chime, I’d somehow “integrated” again (as I assume wellness influencers are fond of saying).

Startled by the whole sequence (and made more surreal by my friend now talking about somewhere called Alberta wanting independence from Canada while still being IN Canada???), I looked back at the minus-one-bite crêpe with the same instinct people once had when they’d stand before art that amazed.

See, back when effort was visible as the work of an artisan’s hands, not AI; back when people dressed in formal clothing every time they left the house; and back when art galleries were still places of awe; when a visitor was truly touched by a hanging piece, men would literally take off their hats while standing before the enframed entrapturment that took their breath away.

Perhaps, I wondered (while my friend moved on to telling me, “Albertans can forget about keeping the Canadian passport”), perhaps… my clap was a modern culinary version of that gesture?

But I must confess even that doesn’t capture how good that bite was. So I had to delve deeper and something clicked into place. I suddenly remembered: ‘I have been here before’ and knew even then there was something Priestly about this place.🤭

Last time, I knew the food deserved more than five stars — but writing a review felt impossible; an instinctive inertia impelled itself upon me as I gazed at the door hanging on the wall (yes, an actual door) and heard the beautiful familial story behind it from the owner. Something in that moment told me there was more to come. So I waited.

And this morning, when that jaw-stopping, fork-dropping, clap-inducing moment arrived, I finally understood what I was meant to say and how. In honour and homage to this land of Loonies, Toonies, and the eternally missing 50 cents, I’ll lean on animation to deliver the point:

If you want any idea of what I’m talking about, rewatch Ratatouille and remember the critic’s reaction to Remy’s final meal.

It’s that.
Anton’s Ego had to go.
Abra ka dabra.
Magic indeed.

Food For Thought To Make Your Dining Experience Even Better:

My wife and I have recently had a remarkable dining experience in Oakville. The Crepe Kitchen serves the most delicious crepes and French onion soup that I have had. This family owned and operated venue focuses on the high quality of fresh ingredients and food preparation. The staff is welcoming, knowledgable and helpful.

Before writing my own review, I looked back over the reviews posted by others so as not to repeat frequent comments. However I noticed that the reviews which have a negative rating, contain comments which generally suggest a misalignment of expectations in four areas. These are affected by the small physical premises and the goal to provide an enjoyable dining experience for all. The interior premises seats approximately 30 patrons with a close proximity between tables. Additionally, there is an outdoor patio. It has a small open kitchen which limits inventory and therefore restricts variations from the menu. Paid municipal parking lots and paid street parking areas are available nearby. (Oakville’s “Honk” app facilitates both payment and extending time from your table).

WHAT TO EXPECT:

1) Seating Policy:
As stated on the website and displayed in the restaurant window, parties are only seated when all members are present. This is due to limited seating and to ensure all members receive their food at the same time and temperature. This is a policy adopted by many dining establishments.

2) Paying in Advance And Tipping:
Paying in advance is a common practice at small European cafes and restaurants. It is also the practice at Tim Horton’s and McDonald’s. With respect to tipping for ANY service, you have control of the tipping amount. The current rate by etiquette has risen from 15% to 20% but you can enter any percentage or dollar amount, or use cash for the tip.

3) Family Friendly:
The accommodation of high chairs or strollers is limited by the proximity of tables and the need to provide an unobstructed path for both the clientele and the servers. The proximity of tables also means that the avoiding of disturbance to other diners, requires that parents excise consideration for others with respect to the behaviour of their children in a dining environment. If a normally energetic small child, has just had a massive sugar fix, then perhaps enjoying The Crepe Kitchen on another occasion might be in order.

4) Cell Phones:
Concerning the use of cell phones, as in all social circumstances where people are in close proximity, the expectation is that the duration and volume of a cell phone will not intrude on the enjoyment of others. Odds are that other patrons may not share your enjoyment in your choice of sporting events, movies or video clips played on a phone speaker.
The easiest solution for phone calls is to just momentarily step outside for anything other than a very brief call. However, as pointedly stated in an online article that you should realize that you just indicated to your dining companion, ”I don‘t even know what this call is about, but I do know that it is more important than you are.”

The Crepe Kitchen is an absolute delight. May you enjoy the experience as much as we have!
