Super cozy and homey spot! We were there near Christmas and they had a fire burning and warm lighting. Serviced food on unique and beautiful plates.
Service was very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious.
They are regularly changing the menu based on what's in season, using a lot of local ingredients.
We had the venison and the duck, and a winter greens salad, and it was all delicious.
Wish there were more places like this further south!

This restaurant has such a beautiful, cozy atmosphere—it truly feels like being at home. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, which adds to the overall comfort of the experience. There’s a lovely attention to detail throughout the space, from the charming vintage plates to the tasteful paintings on the walls, with candles everywhere creating a soft, intimate ambiance. The food is absolutely outstanding—rich, comforting, and genuinely tastes like it’s home-cooked with care.

I stumbled on this place online while looking for a nice restaurant for my mum's 70th bday, and the goodhawk did not disappoint!
This restaurant is nestled in the village of hockley, and had a really relaxed yet fancy vibe to it.
Atmosphere: Walking in, the interior feels homey like being invited over to a friend's house. The lighting is more dim to set the mood, and there are no more than 8-10 tables in the whole place (smaller). The music was great (not too loud), and the place setting was rustic. Overall very inviting, loved the ambiance a lot!
Service: the service was warm, friendly, and not over the top! When we walked in we were introduced to the 3 folks on the main floor, shook their hands, and sat down. Our waitress was very bubbly with us, and was not overly intrusive during the night - but came in at the right moments to check in us, fill water, and such. I really liked that they were more than just servers - they really had a back for making you feel welcomed :) it was my mother's 70th as well, and I mentioned that over the phone. They brought her a cute treat with a sparkler to celebrate 🥳
Food: the food was incredible. We got the steak and halibut for main, and duck prosciutto dish for app. The appetizer was such an experience for the taste buds. The cheese, prosciutto, greens, and sauce were all so well balanced. The mains were every bit as good! My halibut was cooked to perfection over a bed of wild rice and lemon zest / dill green sauce. I really had to resist shoveling the food in my mouth in 2 seconds haha..
Overall: we were 3 people, ordered 3 mains, 3 drinks, and 1 app. We made out around $250-260 before tip which I thought was very much worth it for the whole experience! I would say if you like larger portions maybe order 1 more app, but for us this was a perfect meal.

What a wonderful experience and a pleasant surprise. Stumbled upon this restaurant while taking a look on the map for a place to dine and it was beyond expectations. The quietness of the area, the quant home with the yellow door and the warm welcome set the stage for what would be an evening of delight. Meal after meal, we were left feeling whole. The ingredients were pure and honest, and I appreciated the simplicity yet abundance of flavour of each meal. Hospitality was kind and attentive and had a genuine warmth. Definitely worth the drive and going out of your way. I suggest a visit before what seems like a best kept secret gets discovered like a crown jewel.
