My husband and I have been in Ottawa and area for almost a week, and this is the best dining experience we've had. When we walked into the restaurant, I fell in love with the atmosphere and decor. It looked like it would be a wonderful experience, and it didn't disappoint. Caroline was our waitress and she was friendly, efficient and attentive. I was very impressed with the bread Henry brought out at the beginning of the meal. It was a square loaf with 4 sections, 2 were a white (which is all my husband will eat) and the other 2 were whole grain, so unique and delicious. Caroline recommended menu items that we took her advice on (and we were not in the least disappointed!). My husband started with the French Onion Soup and I had the Escargot with mushrooms & cheese. Both were amazing. For dinner, he had the 14oz ribeye with a twice baked potato and the blue cheese butter on the steak, which was cooked to perfection. It was so cool to see Caroline bring out the kitchen torch to melt the blue cheese butter at the table. I had the Butterfly Baked Shrimp and I was very impressed! I'm not normally a big rice fan but the garlic rice that accompanied the shrimp was delicious. Everything was so good, I forgot to take many pictures, I couldn't wait to dig in! At the end of the meal, because we were first time visitors to the restaurant and area, Caroline brought us a sample of the coconut cream pie and the cheese cake. I have to say, the cheese cake is the best I've ever had in my life! And I'm totally serious. Henry was the busboy who kept the water filled, served the bread, kept the tables cleared, and looked after boxing up leftovers. He was really a great worker and so sweet. Sam is one of the owners, the son of Al who started the company in July of 1967. He told us Al's was the first and only restaurant in Ottawa to use live charcoal to cook their steaks on and they have an onsite butcher. It was really interesting chatting with Sam. Check them out!
The food & service was outstanding. A very friendly staff, attentive and accommodating. Enjoy🎉
Food is generaly good. The service generaly excellent. BUt if there was one critisism to make; it would be the acoustic within the restaurant. it is very difficut to hold a conversation.
First time dining at Al's. The service was top notch, our server answered some of our questions in French when she heard us speaking the language. The appetizer was abundant enough for two. Steak was cooked to perfection as per our request. We are “out of towers” but will definitely be back to Al's Steakhouse. Highly recommend!
Loved the wait staff, service and food were great. We just found it incredibly loud!!!! Otherwise no complaints.
Excellent service and food delicious. We shared a filet mignonette and it was just the right portion. Always a pleasure to be served by Tennille. Look forward to coming back to celebrate my birthday.
Great food, great service. At lunchtime, the ambiance is quite nice as it is quiet and easy to have conversations. In the summer, the back patio is a not-so-hidden gem!
Incredible menu, we were a group of 4 and shared a bunch of appetizers, then a steak to finish it off. The apps were all incredible (zucchini sticks, tuna tartare, French onion soup, crab stuffed mushrooms, ceasar salad).
The steaks were phenomenal, service was excellent as always. It was a little loud in the dinning room but still an awesome vibe. Would recommend to anyone and we're going back soon.

We had such a wonderful experience thanks to our amazing waitress, Marika! From the moment we sat down, she was warm, friendly, and attentive without ever being intrusive. She knew the menu inside and out, gave thoughtful recommendations, and made sure our drinks and meals arrived promptly. What stood out the most was her genuine kindness—she made us feel truly welcome and cared for. Small touches, like checking in at just the right moments and remembering details from our order, really elevated the evening.

Once again I'm so impressed. Tonight was an intimate birthday dinner with my favorite person. Our food was, as usual, sublime. Our servers outdid themselves. And management was not only courteous but remembered me from previous visits. I cannot recommend this restaurant

I was served by Marika, she was friendly and her customer service was very great.
She gave us suggestions on what to order since it was our first time dining at the restaurant.
We were treated very well and we will come back very soon and hope to be served by Marika again!

What a wonderful restaurant! This place might just have become one of my favourites in O-Town. The Steak on Kayser with peppercorn sauce was absolutely delicious, and the blueberry cheesecake was to die for. I also really appreciated our server, Marika! She was incredibly lovely and attentive. Genuinely, no notes... and I’m not that easy to impress!
