Pastries were fine, but my experience at checkout was disappointing. When I asked whether six items are tax-free, the response included a generalization about Chinese customers, which felt disrespectful. I’d encourage the bakery to post clear tax information and ensure welcoming, stereotype-free communication. I hope to see improvements.
In my view, a great bakery is half taste and half service. Whatever the quality of the pastries, this interaction overshadowed the experience. I hope management will clarify the tax policy (clear signage would help) and train staff to communicate respectfully and humbly. I genuinely wish the business well, but I won’t be returning unless service improves

Very nice local bakery.
The owner is a very sweet person very polite.
The crunch on my fresh bread sandwiched he made for me was incredible.
Very nice simple and clean turkey sandwich.
10/10 really nice little background history on his wall as well.

Got a biscotti from Brown Loaf Bakery on Elgin — so good! Perfect crunch, great flavor, and amazing with tea. Super friendly place too. Definitely coming back for more.

Consistently delicious croissants and a fun selection of cookies, bread, and tarts. The baker is very friendly and always making something fresh, and the prices are fair-- especially compared to the overpriced cafés nearby

My favourite bakery! The owner and staff are the sweetest people, with the most delicious items :)
I saw some review that said “best pecan butter tart” so I got one of their pecan butter tarts and it wasn’t good at all. Actually it was one of the worst butter tarts I’ve ever had. Way too sweet and just not good. The baker was an Asian man around 60 years old and the butter tart crust tasted the same as those Asian egg tarts. The chocolate chip cookie was average or worse and the cinnamon bun I barely remember. This place is 3/5 in my opinion.

This is a Centretown fixture, for good reason.

That cranky old guy wouldn’t sell me a thing when I was surprised that croissants of the same size cost twice as much. Absolutely unacceptable customer service. Maybe it’s time for him to head to the garden of shadows. He tired of people.

The butter tarts were very good and the butter croissants were decent. Will have to try the other types of croissants if they haven’t run out yet near lunch
Some of the best croissants I’ve ever had. All of the people that work there are some of the nicest people. I don’t know what the low reviews claiming that the old man is rude are going on about. He’s the kindest man you’ll ever meet. He remembers me every time I go, and I’m far from a regular. He always remembers what I like!
Very sweet owner and the baked goods were reasonably priced and very tasty!
