We ate breakfast here during Winterlude fest. We loved it because it was open early, offered freshly made omelettes with side of real fresh fruit, nice pastries, great coffee, sunny and warm seating, and the couple running the busy morning have great hospitality personalities - they keep it moving, polite and fun! We really appreciated how good they are at running a nice place in a busy area that is a bit short on breakfast options. Highly recommend it, especially for egg-eaters!

So incredibly rude to not only lie about the price in an attempt to gauge me upfront, but afterwards randomly tell me to leave the place for no actual reason when I was just about to pay!!! Where the hell are your basic manners and decency??? I have never experienced anything so bad even at the other worst businesses I have ever dealt with. I rate this place a -1000!!!

I was having a bad day and was complaining about life. The employee gave me and my friend to share a cinnamon bun to make me feel better 🫶

Walking around Ottawa on a snowy day. Went down around the market and decided on some food.
Stopped into the Byward Cafe and was greeted with a cheery „good morning“
The food was delicious.
Service was fast and friendly.
Worth checking out if you are around the market.

Very poor service tonight. The server was rude and impatient, telling me to leave if I didn’t order immediately while I was waiting for someone. The staff member had an Egyptian accent (mentioned only for identification). Very unprofessional behavior😔

Staff is very nice but the food is very sad. I ordered what was labelled as Chicken Caesar wrap on their menu. 9.50$
And this is what you get. Photo is half of it. They serve it in a panini which you know it's fine, I don't mind. Where is the caesar part of it, though? No lettuce/salad, no dressing/sauce that I can actually taste. The chicken is dry and you can tell it was refrigerated for a while before being put on the panini grill to warm up. The inside was still cold when I opened it. The bacon doesn't taste anything which is kind of impressive considering the flavor profile of bacon in general.
For the price I would have hoped my sandwich would at least taste better and feel a bit fresher. 15$ for a small hot chocolate and this sandwich is too expensive. Byward is known for its touristic pricings and as a local it is clear I am not the target audience.
I hope they improve their sandwiches. Staff is very nice and they're not far from success if they make it better!

Quite busy place and the staff was handling the queue very well. I did not find a place to sit in the cafe but that’s usual for the markets and not the owners problem honestly. I don’t really care where to eat so it wasn’t a factor at all.
As a barista myself, coffee was really nice, the oat milk they use was good quality, not the mass market stuff, which is always a good sign!
Grabbed a ham and swiss cheese panini and it was delish, a lot of filling and high quality cheese, if you know how this cheese should taste you will get it right away; you also get to choose the sauce as well which is really nice, and that small detail adds a lot to the experience and the way they treat customers. I hope the staff gets treated well for their hard work since customizing it for every single customer can be overwhelming with that long line of people.
On my way back to the hostel i grabbed a greek salad for my dinner and it was fresh and tasted great as well.
Overall, whenever i come to Ottawa i will make sure to stop by this place for fast serve and great food!
