Our first but not last visit to Caravela.
We were 8 and the evening was on point start to finish
I had the grilled octopus. Perfectly cooked with some nice sauces, a light tasty salad and rice. Good size portion
My partner had the Sea bass. Very nice. The house white was decent and stood up to the flavours of the Octopus dish
The Chorizo sausage au feu was tasty and brought some flare to the dinner.
Service was attentive and friendly thanks to Rico.
Espresso, port and cake closed out the evening just right.
Expect to be back!

I want to thank everyone at Caravela for providing a wonderful New Year's Eve dining experience for myself and my guest. We attended the 8 p.m. service and all the courses came out like clockwork. I had the Fernando's Platter and my friend had the Sea Bass. Both were cooked to perfection. My only regret is that I didn't leave enough room for all of the dessert, although I did manage to get through half. (My friend had the other half.) The à la carte menu with champagne was well worth the price. Bravo and Happy New Year.

Ordered a whole chicken dinner for a family of 4. The serving of rice was for 1 that fed no more then my 10 year old daughter and the fries serving was the same, not to mention no better then your typical McCain shoe string fries. No bread came with the meal either. The price on the website says $42 but I was billed $58. I mentioned to them the discrepancy in price and they said they would fix the pricing on the website. Paying that much for a meal I would have thought to get more out of it then I would have, especially when I have been to other Portuguese restaurants and their servings were much more generous then here.
Needless to say that I was not happy about this when I got home and opened up my takeout dinner for my family. Just because I didn't look Portuguese doesn't mean I don't understand the culture and the food portions and that meal was truly an embarrassment to yours.
Last night I went to Caravela restaurant for the first time. I had the salmon, which was grilled to perfection and served with salad and rice. Please try Fernando's special cake for dessert--his own invention and sooo delicious! The service was excellent and the ambience cozy, feeling like he's brought a bit of Portugal to Canada. I highly recommend Caravela!

The best octopus we've ever had. The lamb shank was delicious and a generous portion. Also ordered the piri piri chicken and it was very good, with tasty skin. I'd love an extra sauce with the chicken.

We stopped here for lunch. Service was extremely slow: there was only one server for the entire establishment. The sound ambience is brittle: every conversation here is reflected to everyone else with knife edges added. Finally being able to order the fish of the day, the soup of the day arrived, a delicious chicken-sago broth that was barely lukewarm, no nose at all. Just as we were deciding that we wouldn't be back, the fish of the day arrived: a large platter presenting a fillet with a crunchy chip-battered coating, perfectly cooked and tasty, accompanied by a delicious mixed-greens salad. Superb.

On a recent visit to Caravela on Innes Road in Ottawa. I experienced an uncomfortable dining experience with the arrogant proprietor. He charged me $2 for 8 toonie sized pieces of bread with a 1/2 teaspoon of flavoured butter. I didn’t expect to pay for the bread we didn’t order nor were we told that we would be charged for it. He said it used to be free, but now he has to pay for it. So in return he gave me 2 Euros. When I questioned him, he took back the Euros and replaced them with 5 quarters. How insulting. I had the grilled octopus which was mediocre at best. He claimed it was the best in town.
Well recommend place!

Always the best. My wife and I go here for many our special occasions. We're lucky to have Ottawas best Portugeuese restaurant in Orleans (of all places)!

Not often that I’ll rave about a restaurant but this is different…
This place is AMAZING, both in quality of their food a the value.
In the current day & age of chain restaurants and even smaller places trying to cut corners, this restaurant stands head & shoulders above.
Small place so book early
We were actually turned away when I called asking for a table for 6 in 15 minutes (I know, I know…)
5 minutes later, my phone rang and it was the owner asking us to come after all but we had to mindful that he needed the table in 90 minutes.
We were there in 5 minutes and tucking into the best bread basket this side of Portugal.
The roast was great, the salmon was great and the lamb shank was simply amazing.
Nicely stocked bar too 😉
If you live in or visit Ottawa, you gotta eat here
