I signed up & paid for the short course 'Quiche Lorraine'. Soon I was notified of the cancellation. I requested my money back immediately on the 24th of July, 2023. It has been a month since then but my money hasn't yet been refunded. The last email I sent them left unanswered. I hate leaving this review but I want others to know how disrespectful Le Cordon Bleu treats their customers. Please be aware when paying for courses cause you'll have to fight for a refund in case of cancellation.

Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa: Rundown location. The changing room is a windowless basement with the roof falling apart, puddles of water on the bathroom floors, and a strong smell of urine in the air. High turnover of teaching staff. Broken/malfunctioning fridges, ovens, cameras, computers, irons, and chairs, and not enough special equipment to go around for students during practicals. A pastry chef couldn’t realise his croissants for over a year, every term blaming the proofing oven. Inferior quality produce for practicals—fake truffle, mouldy fruit and veg, water instead of broth sometimes, almost never any garnish, and missing ingredients for pastry practicals. Shellfish recipes cut to 1/4 for practicals, and the instructor will eat all the lobster while grading the dish. Cost cutting at every corner. Toxic work environment, riddled with violence—bullying, verbal threats, physical harassment etc. There is this attitude that students are rich (for affording the hefty tuition fees) and spoiled, and should be brought down a peg. Lots of put downs, racists comments, and reminders that students are worthless and deserve to be treated with contempt. Despite student manuals stating it as optional, students receive verbal threats of expulsion should they choose to opt out of the FREE LABOUR shifts assigned to them to cook meals for staff, or make money for the LCB in their last term, working at the restaurant -exploitation portrayed as a valuable career opportunity. Needless to say exploitation of labour is illegal in Canada. Chef instructors wear so many hats in this location, and have TOTAL control over students’ affairs, with no oversight. Non-teaching staff rally behind the bully instructors, as almost everyone here fears/worships them. At first recruiters circle you nonstop with smiles and enthusiasm until registration is complete. Once the student has said farewell to tens of thousands of tuition fees no one wants to hear from him, and all their doors are closed and they disappear. The student is at the total mercy of the chef instructors —keep in mind they grade arbitrarily, could refuse students entry to class, and at whim build up a case to expel a student. There is NO outlet or opportunity to report these violent incidents internally—check out how their website is devoid of any staff names or contact info, no company structure, just a curated set of pretty food pictures and happy testimonials from the same handful of students on every global location you choose. And it’s the same few people in charge of everything in Ottawa. However, students are forcefully invited to provide positive feedback every term. This location is a waste of money and destroys your mental health. If adamant of Le cordon Bleu, attend the Paris location. *all of these experiences have been limited to French male chef instructors, some of which are still around at the time of this review.

I’ve never actually eaten in the restaurant per se, but my partner and I have been getting their gourmet take out packages. Our first meal was for Christmas, and it was so good we made sure to book them for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, and we just booked them for Father’s Day. The instructions for heating these high-end delights are incredibly good. As for the food? Wow! If it is this good as a takeout, I can’t wait to visit after COVID. Highly recommended!

Lovely workshop on how make and decorate Easter eggs. Perfect for all chocolate lovers.

I have done a few of their short courses and highly recommend them. I have yet to meet a poor instructor.

This was incredible. I ordered the Valentine’s Day contactless curb-side pickup. Four course meal including dessert. Everything was perfect- it came with instructions for reheating that you could not go wrong by. Also had instructions for plating. They really went above and beyond to create a meal that let us really enjoy ourselves and forget about Covid for one evening. This is the gold standard that I have become used to with Cordon Bleu. All I ask now is that they create course to teach us how to recreate that incredible meal.

A good place to see what the students have been learning to make!
