I had spent a good part of my day exploring the Glebe. I had driven back to the hotel. It was probably around 6 pm when the thought of fetching dinner came to me. I parked in the outdoor lot and pulled out my Uber Eats app to discover what was around me. Giant Panda Restaurant looked promising. In my car, I placed this takeout order:- Beef fried rice- Wontons with hot peanut sauce- Creamy chicken sweet corn soup- Mango bubble tea with coconut jellyThe drive wasn't all that far for me. it was maybe eight minutes. This eatery is on the lower level of an apartment building. There isn't a place to park in front of the main entrance on Lees Avenue. I don't recommend parking on this street. It's a single lane in either direction and you are close the ramp that gets you eastbound on highway 417. Instead, drive up the ramp on the right when you are looking at the eatery's main entrance. I recommend hanging a sharp left when you are up on the second floor. There is parking in front of this eatery's back entrance. I didn't find any spots there, so I parked in front of the apartment building. It worked out fine. It was a slightly longer walk. This place does not have an elevator from the back entrance. You basically descend a long staircase to get to the main floor. When I got there, I nice man said hi. I reciprocated and indicated that I had an Uber Eats order. He nodded and carefully got my two packages. The first one was my food in a brown paper bag. The other was a small bag with my bubble tea. I smiled and thanked him for my order. I then ascended the stairs. My order wasn't crazy size-wise. I'm thinking that if you are doing takeout with a large order, you need to find extra help to carry them up the stairs!I walked over to my car. I carefully placed my food and drink in it, and then drove back to the hotel. When I got to my room, I chowed down. The creamy chicken sweet corn soup had excellent flavour. It was naturally sweet from the corn and chicken. I loved the corn kernels that you get with every spoonful. I'm normally not a huge egg drop soup person. However, there wasn't all that much egg in this soup that it appealed to me. The soup needed more corn starch to thicken the soup, though. My mango bubble tea was yummy. I couldn't customize the sugar level. My guess is that it was at 25%. It was slightly sweet, which I didn't mind. The mango flavour made me happy. The coconut jelly was excellent. I have been into wontons and dumplings as of late. I got the wontons with hot peanut sauce. Delicious! The filling was generous and yummy. The wrapper was solid around each wonton. The sauce was spot on, with a nice balance of chili oil and peanut sauce. The chopped peanuts and green onions tied everything together. This dish rivals that from Bingz. I highly recommend this dish if you like wontons in a flavourful chili sauce and are a peanut fan.I also am not a regular beef fried rice person. I couldn't tell you when I last had some. I went with it here. It was authentically yummy. The beef was tender and flavourful. The sear on these morsels of beef was excellent. The fried rice was perfectly done. There weren't any lumps or bumps. It also had green onions, which made me happy. It was on the slightly greasy side. I need to specify less oil when I order this dish next time. The oil wasn't horribly disgusting, but you did see the shine at the bottom of the container. My meal came with a fortune cookie. I like seeing Pac-man as a cookie. I don't recall what my fortune was. I certainly didn't win the lottery.I had a wonderful experience here. I hope to return and try more items. Perhaps I'll get noodles next time.(275)

I tried their new recipe bun Bo hu, it is really tasty. I even finish all soup as well. It is spicy but really good. My husband tried their passion fruit iced tea and black pepper beef tender rice. He likes it too. Will definitely come back. The service is good!

Fried rice is wet and salty, general tso is too salty and soggy. Chicken balls taste good but tiny portion for the price. Overall disappointed.

Three of us wanted Chinese food. We didn't expect it to be very good given the name and the price point - but we expected it to be edible. It wasn't. It all went in the garbage. All of it. Nobody calls a place like Giant Panda to complain bc...I should have known better but still. The spare ribs meat couldn't be chewed it was so over cooked. The chicken balls were crisp - but on the inside. so overcooked. The rice was burnt. The almond guy ding was actually onion soup. I'm not even exaggerating. We didn't eat any of it.

Free parking at the back of restaurant. They have nice large space but they should tidy up the common areas so that it looks less cluttered. Ordered the speciality hot pot stir fry. It was spicy and pretty good size for one. Would be nice if they had added a bit of green to make the plate more appetizing because it was pretty tasty. Also ordered flat noodle stir fried with beef. It was not bad for $13.99. Tasty but the plate was a bit small for my liking. Overall, fair but if they just tidy up a bit and add a bit more color in their plates , it would be so much better for the price they charge. Cheers.

Jansen,

Delicious food. Good prices. Well maintained location. The service was fast and they also give fruit iced tea. after being seated!!! I've spent some time in many different Asian restaurants and this places hangs in there with some of the best.

The restaurant’s Szechuan food is the flavor we tasted in China. Very classic spicy dishes!

I stopped by Giant Panda to grab a bubble tea and pick up some takeout for dinner recently. Overall, it was ok. The food was too oily/greasy for my liking. 4 stars for the bubble tea (taking into consideration price and quantity), 3 stars for the Pad Thai. So 3.5 stars overall, but I'm rounding up due to the good service. I was a bit leery of trying this place due to all the poor reviews on Yelp, but most of them are from years ago, so I think they have improved. I got the Chicken Pad Thai ($12.99). It had large pieces of chicken, lots of bean sprouts, green onions, egg, and some slivered carrots. It had something that tasted like caramelized onions in it which was unique and enjoyable, but I couldn't get over the excessive oiliness. I would have enjoyed this dish so much more if they used less oil. It did have lots of flavour and a nice spicy kick though. I got the Original Milk Tea ($4.99) which comes with tapioca pearls already included. I got it 50% sweet and "less ice." The tea had a roasted slight caramel flavour to it, which was quite pleasant. The temperature was good at "less ice" but I could have gone with more sugar, maybe 70%. I usually find standard bubble tea too sweet so my usual order is 25-50% sweet which suits me fine, but 50% sweet here was not quite sweet enough for me (!) The bubbles were soft and chewy, but almost "too fluffy" if that makes sense, lol. The price is excellent though, as the size is large and they are generous with the tapioca. I didn't find the bubble tea as good as places that sell exclusively bubble tea, but for an eatery, their bubble tea is respectable. Service was very friendly and efficient. There are a few booths to eat inside but it seems more like a takeout joint to me. The restaurant is in front of an apartment building. There's limited free parking at the back of the building on the second level, up the ramp. The spots are labelled "for Giant Panda customers only." Then you can enter the second floor back entrance to the restaurant, but this means you will have to descend a steep flight of stairs. Otherwise you can go down the ramp and around and enter the main entrance on the ground level. There was no readily apparent street parking that I could see. I suspect a lot of their business is from residents of the apartment building and nearby buildings. There are a lot of University of Ottawa students who live nearby ;)

Ordered for delivery for the first time last week and can definitely say I’ll be ordering again in future. The food was packed with so much flavour and the portions were more than generous. Nice variety of Asian dishes with a very friendly vegan menu. Highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. Everything was absolutely delicious. My favourite was the Yushiang Eggplant. It was a full of YUMM

We ordered the tomato and egg soup, man that was so good a unique take on tradition tomato soup. Eggs in soup is such a brilliant idea it was so delicious you guys should just make egg soup. My wife loved the eggs rolls too. I’m an ottawa food critic I would recommend you guys just for the food alone.
