Incredible arepas! Great service too!
The last time I ordered arepas was before they moved to the new location. I’m disappointed by the quality, size, and taste of the arepas. They are smaller, have less filling, and the ingredients seem lower in quality.
For example, the cheese was too salty and got aftertaste, there was very little avocado, and instead of mayonnaise, they used some kind of dressing.
I really hope they improve their products.
It was a nice experience with Latin food. Calm and beautiful atmosphere, quick service, and friendly people.
Amazing food. Made quick and taste fresh. I like to try something new each time I visit and have always left happy with my decision
Great food and staff staff
I've been going to gooney's for many years. I really enjoy their breakfast arepas. Over the years, especially post pandemic, their prices have really skyrocketed. Yes, I know that's a lot I places these days, but prices almost doubling over 5 years seems excessive to me. I haven't been downtown for almost 1.5 years and decided to get a breakfast arepa last Thursday. My go to is the egg and cheese which (to my surprise) was no longer on the menu. The girl behind the counter was nice enough to make it for me anyways, but when she rang it up, i was shocked with the cost of a simple egg and cheese sandwich- over $10 with taxes. I think that's just too much. In retrospect, I should've probably gone with something that had more toppings bc it seems all breakfast options start at $9 plus tax now. With these prices however, I don't think I'll be going back.
I love this place, one of my go-to spots for food. The arepas are so delicious and the house coriander sauce is dope! There is always a huge line at lunch time but it’s so worth it! The staff is fantastic as well!
My review is strictly for the arepa, specifically the pabellon arepa. This is not a traditional style with traditional ingredients, fusion at best. Feta cheese instead of using queso blanco is a fusion move?
The first couple bites of plantains in my arepa I can see and taste that they were unripe plantains which could be another fusion thing to go more savory then sweet. But squeezed into the bottom of the arepa were 2 chunks (not sliced) plantains that were completely inedible.
I brought it to the attention of one of the staff, she said it was probably not their best ones. Then my thought is, don't serve it at all! If you're going to serve subpar quality, I rather be told there are no plantains today.
The only saving grace of the arepa was the shredded beef which was really tasty and a generous portion.
I recommend the Sweet Isabella 😋 it's delicious!!!! The best arepa I've had in a while! Viva Venezuela!!

Gooney’s Sandwich Works offers an outstanding vegetarian sandwich that truly impressed me. Despite the photos looking a bit messy, the taste and quality of the sandwich were excellent. The combination of fresh roasted mushrooms, cheddar cheese, and other wholesome ingredients made it not only delicious but also very healthy. This sandwich stands out as a great option for anyone looking for a nutritious and satisfying meal.
The freshness of the ingredients is evident in every bite, and the flavors are well balanced, making it a memorable vegetarian choice. I appreciate that Gooney’s focuses on quality and health, which is reflected in their menu options. The sandwich was filling without feeling heavy, which is perfect for a light yet nourishing lunch.
I will definitely be ordering from Gooney’s again because the food quality exceeded my expectations. The friendly service and the variety of options, including vegetarian and gluten-free choices, make it a versatile spot for different dietary needs. I also recommend this place to others who want a tasty, healthy sandwich experience.
Overall, Gooney’s Sandwich Works delivers on taste, health, and value. Their vegetarian sandwich is a standout item that I will happily return for and suggest to friends and family. If you’re looking for a fresh, flavorful, and wholesome sandwich, Gooney’s is my top choice in Ottawa. The combination of great ingredients and care in preparation makes it a must-try for anyone who enjoys good food that’s also good for you.
Good staff
Great local spot for lunch and dinners. The ingredients are fresh and looks so much better than the ones from the chain restaurants. The flavour is pretty mild though. Not salty, nor greasy.
A must try corner spot! I got the Pollo Picante & Pabellon arepas and they were so tasty! And they pack it in too!
