I've dined at Japanese Village many times since 1991. I remember seeing the goofy television commercials in the 1980s and ate there when the waitresses still dressed in kimonos. It's always been Ottawa's original simultaneous dinner and a show with the chefs cooking your meal right in front of you.

I went there yesterday for the first time since May 28, 2019 and nothing has changed. The same formula has worked for them since 1973 and there's no need to change it. I had the New York Striploin and Yaki Shrimp and enjoyed my meal as always.

My only complaint is that they need to have a website. This place is very pricey. With tax and tip, my meal came to $75. People should be able to see the menu and the prices. Chez Lucien had this issue for years.

This is a great restaurant to visit every year or two.

Underwhelming both service and food. Portions were small(2 shrimp per person) but food was very bland, soaked in soy sauce and call it teriyaki.

My wife and I visited Japanese Village today, and we were absolutely delighted with the entire experience. This place is truly amazing — one of the best dining spots in Ottawa, Canada.

The food was incredibly delicious — especially the meat, which was cooked to perfection. We ordered two main dishes priced at $68 and $65, and every bite was worth it. The flavors, the textures, the freshness — everything was outstanding. Oh my, the sauces… they were unbelievably good! I was savoring every taste.

The chef was fantastic — so skilled and friendly. The whole staff was welcoming and attentive, and the service was excellent from start to finish. We stayed for about an hour, but the time flew by so quickly because we were completely immersed in the moment. For the first half-hour, the chef was cooking right in front of us, and we simply couldn’t resist trying every freshly prepared bite immediately.

I genuinely didn’t want to leave — that’s how much I enjoyed being there. And my wife was over the moon, especially since today was her birthday. We actually discovered this place two weeks ago and decided it would be the perfect spot to celebrate. And it truly was.

Thank you, Japanese Village, for making this day even more special. We’ll definitely be back!

The food portions did NOT match the price, honestly just go down the street and get u some meet noodle! Also the waitress was really mean :(

Do NOT expect anything even slightly better than mediocre for a high price.

A lot more expensive than it used to be. No reason why it should costs more than 200$ for a very simple meal for 4

Cook's show and interaction was minimal

When you go to a restaurant as such, you go for the experience. Not only did our table not receive the 'show' as every other table did. The cook, had the nerve to ask my 11 year old daughter if she was a girl or a boy. I'm sorry, but why does that matter??
We had been coming here for years. Sadly this will be the last time we go. Horrible experience.

Always a pleasure to visit! The food is high quality, fresh, and delicious. The service is always fun, quick, and friendly. It’s definitely pricey for a nice dinner, but you get a quality that’s extremely worthy of the price point. Excellent for big parties and gatherings!

I forgot my purse there after an OK dinner but be ready to spend $250+ for 2 people… anyways forgot my purse and called 20 mins before they close and the lady answered the phone and said my purse was there and it will stay until the next day at 4pm when they open!! Because she doesn’t want to stay back for me to pick it up in the matter of 20 mins and she wouldn’t stay back to let me get my purse with my kids health cards that I needed and had no sympathy for me and I regret tipping her, terrible person. The place was still open for a little bit. Rushing out of there when you have someone’s identity and belongings. They basically withheld it from me. Because of that I won’t go back.
