I have been here 5 times! The first time I went, I loved the food and the coffee they served. I went a second time with a bigger group because of the coffee to have afterwards, they kept telling me the coffee machine is broken. 3rd time I went again with a friend they told me coffee machine is broken; I told them it’s been a while the machine is broken so then the waiter told me they don’t serve coffee anymore which was a huge disappointment because they never mention that over phone while reserving! Last time I went was recently and I specifically asked for a booth and when I got there they told me they can’t give me a booth because they keep the booths for larger groups and they had my timing wrong. Service was ok!
The food is a hit or miss. Overall food is not bad but the last time I tried the steak with rice instead of fries, the steak was not the same and it was coated with way too much BBQ sauce that grossed me out. The rice had absolutely NO taste, plain white boiled rice (very dry) Chicken Alfredo barely had any chicken Tables were set up way too close to each other, it felt super uncomfortable to hear the conversations of the people sitting next to me. We literally ate and left, did not enjoy our time going there- it felt rushed and environment waa not comfortable.

Nice place. It seems their saffron sauce is the signature as it appears often in their menu. Tried it in their fettucine with steak and peppers. Felt a little lacking in flavour. My friends steaks were cooked perfectly to medium rare although it was not guaranteed - unfortunately mine turned medium well done.

Steak was more mediocre than marvin vettori himself, it was like shoe leather with a bit of juice. The prices were good if you feel like wasting your money. 40 dollars for some shoe leather is worth it man!

Steak was super chewy, Kara Mia special says you can choose any pasta of your choice, but in person I wasn't allowed to pick any with meat, so there goes more than half the options. Expensive for what you actually get, I wouldn't mind if the taste was amazing but unfortunately that wasn't the case.

A nicer spot in Ottawa for a dinner or to celebrate an occasion. Food options are unique from most halal options out there, so thats a star in my books.
Love their famous saffron sauce, sooo delicious and the portions are very generous. Decor is nice and the staff are professional and get the job done.

Kara Mia is a solid restaurant for American Italian food. I was a little surprised to be served heavy meals without any vegetables. No bread, olive or anything was served along with the meal, either. Nice decor and lots of big booths for family meals.
The food is halal. Many spicy options, which is also very cool for Italian cuisine!
The fettuccine Alfredo is really yummy, a thick creamy sauce with nice flavour. The chicken parm was a huge portion but neither pasta nor chicken had much flavour. The service was okay, no problems but not particularly attentive.
All in all, it reminded me of family restaurants in the 80s or 90s - heavy, rich food and if you like that, Kara Mia will be a great pick for you.
It’s OK to get a bite to eat. I definitely wouldn’t take a date here. The food was decent and the price matched the quality.

Kara Mia has officially become one of my new favourite spots for Italian food. We tried it in Ottawa and can't wait to visit the location in Markham.
We ordered a variety of dishes—Penne Picante Rosé, Fettuccini Kara Mia, Pasta Di Carne, and Chicken Parmesan—and every single one impressed us.
The Penne Picante Rosé was the perfect balance of creamy and spicy, with just enough heat to make every bite interesting without overwhelming the palate.
The Fettuccini Kara Mia, their signature dish, was rich, velvety, and packed with flavour—comfort food at its finest.
The Pasta Di Carne was hearty and satisfying, with generous portions of meat that made the dish feel indulgent in the best way. My only grouse would be that the steak was a tad overdone, although the char on it was still very flavourful.
And the Chicken Parmesan? Exceptionally tender, relatively thick cut with a crispy exterior, delicious sauce, and a great portion size. It’s one of the best versions I’ve had.
Service was friendly and prompt, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We loved everything we ordered and left already planning our next visit.
Highly recommend Kara Mia if you’re craving flavourful, well-executed Italian dishes.

Food was not good. We ordered the steak pasta. They did not ask us how we want our steak done. The steak was very well done and had no seasonings and was very thin. We also ordered a chicken pasta and the chicken was boiled and thrown in the pasta with no seasonings. We ordered the hot spot burger and the quality of the meat was not good. It felt like they pulled out a frozen burger from the freezer. Very disappointed. Attempted to make the steak right, second time steak was a little better however did not satisfy. Did not apologize for the experience. Do not recommend this location. Markham location is better.
