⭐️ 1-Star Review: A Luxury Hotel That Acts Like an $80 Collections Agency
I’ve stayed at Fairmont Château Laurier before, spent thousands there without blinking full stay paid, high-end dinners, tipped the concierge and the valet extremely well. I’m not someone who complains, and I’m definitely not someone who nitpicks over small bills.
But this one?
This one deserves a review.
After my stay, I did a balance transfer and switched to a new credit card. The old card was automatically closed. Everything from my stay was already paid room, food, everything. The only thing left was an $80 difference that they forgot to charge sooner. that couldn’t process because the old card was shut down after I checked out.
No big deal, right?
You’d think a luxury hotel that I’ve given thousands to would show a tiny bit of patience or flexibility.
Instead, for $80, they called me like a collections agency.
Over eighty dollars.
When I literally told them I was just waiting for my new credit card to arrive.
They wouldn’t take debit.
They wouldn’t take alternative payment.
They wouldn’t wait.
They wouldn’t work with me in any way.
Just relentless phone calls over $80 from a customer who has spent WAY more than that in a single meal at their restaurant.
It got so ridiculous that I had to drive hours back to Ottawa just to pay them in person all because they refused to accept any other method of payment while I waited for the new card to show up.
For a “luxury” hotel to treat a loyal, high-spending customer like that?
Honestly… hilarious. I’ve never seen a place chase someone that hard over a bill smaller than what I tip.
I promised myself that day I’d never stay there again, and I haven’t.
Because luxury isn’t just chandeliers and marble it’s how you treat people. im an influencer and I stay it hotels 3-4 times a week now i stay at the lord elgin in ottawa. they promise the best service
And on that front, they failed.

For a nice sunset vibe, or evening bite; La terrasse is a place where you’ll enjoy a nice scenic view, the food and drinks are great and the service of the team is good, they are helpful with good communication skills.

Nathan was amazing and Dariya was great – both provided excellent service. Unfortunately, the restaurant seemed very understaffed, so the wait for my cocktail was quite long. You can really see how hard the staff are working, but it also makes the experience feel a bit rushed and sub par.

The menu at La Terrasse is limited, but good for the basics. While guests can order off a menu from an adjoining restaurant, this is not well communicated, and doing so really slows down food delivery.

really nice place with amazing food and service. the view is amazing. be sure to reserve a specific spot on the booking page. hightops see the BEST view of the water or a cute lil house on the side. food was pricey but you get what you pay for and it was 10000% worth it.

The location and the view is nice, but the food is tasteless We ordered pizza and steak with some drinks with total amount of 150$ which doesn't meet for what we ate

The charcuterie and cheese boards were mid. Service was really good. But the improvised setting is not as comfortable.
The only nice thing is the location, the rest is just average except the cost obviously ! Even with a pizza and a drink

Multiple items on the Terrasse menu aren’t available, which the server mentioned to me after I ordered my drink. When I noted that it’s not the first time this happens, the manager kindly came to my table but I had already paid for my drink and notified them I would be eating elsewhere and posting a review. It’s unfortunate and I sympathized with the young waitress who skillfully managed the reaction of other clients as she repeatedly explained the limited menu to them as well. Please do better. I sincerely want to support the Château Laurier.

Our second visit during our stay in Ottawa. The view is amazing and food very good! My hamburger was excellent my wife's flank steak delicious. Wait staff were amazing and I apologize for not remembering their names, especially our server, a bubbly, articulate young girl, a student at Carlton. Highly recommend!

Amazing view but… I wish the food matched the atmosphere. The pizza was below average, from presentation to taste, something as simple as margarita pizza can be done much tastier and nicer, very deceiving kitchen for this spectacular location, at least dont over price the food it will be below average taste
