I’ve been supporting Margo since their very first location. The food is still good—but the service has really gone downhill.
I came in today, rang the bell, and the young woman working saw me but ignored me. I rang again and waved. When she finally came, she acted like I was bothering her.
I ended up waiting 22 minutes for a simple order of plantains and griyo. What I got was mostly meat crumbs—it was obvious the person didn’t even check the plate before handing it over.
The place wasn’t even busy. There were only three customers—myself and a couple.
I’m not giving up on Black-owned businesses, but I truly believe you can level up and do better. The food is worth it, but the service needs to match.

The best costumer service in Ottawa. kivenson really king , pationate and always make the customers happy. I know him from day one. ♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 keep up the good work my friend
Customer service wasn’t that great :(
It was so mid for me. I only tried it once cus there’s many options but the ppl were cool when I went
I paid $19+ tax for the meal, and I am extremely disappointed. The meat was mostly fat, I only got four small pieces of plantain, and the pikliz portion was ridiculously small. This is completely disrespectful to customers. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Definitely not worth the money!
Server was nice and the restaurant had a homey, hole-in-the-wall vibe, but the food was expensive for what we got.
If you get a meal and a drink, after tax it would be ~$40 per person. I got multiple meals because it was my first time trying this Haitian place, but I unfortunately will not be coming back.
The fish and the beef were seasoned well but very dry. The menu listed that the whole fish is $25-30 so you will get charged somewhere in that range (I got charged $30).
The fried chicken was also seasoned well, but felt hard to bite (dry). Photo is of the large-sized fried chicken set. The sauce was tasty though! But for $26 (pre-tax) I was hoping that the chicken pieces would be juicier and easier to chew.
The bottled drinks were $7 each (got the limonade). It was my first time trying Haitian lemon soda “limonade”, and it was nice and easy to drink, but for $7 felt a bit expensive.
The pikliz were nice to try—they have a strong vinegar taste so you’d enjoy them if it you like vinegar chips or vinegar soaked fries.
The fried plantains were also nice—they are comparable to having fried potatoes so it was nice to try.
If it’s your first time trying Haitian food it would be interesting to visit, but it is expensive for what you get.
If I ever visit again in the future I wish to see that the restaurant improves its fried food. Their seasoning was tasty and I think I would’ve enjoyed the food more if the meat dishes were less dry.
This is the only place i usually buy Haitian food when i feel like it, and it’s really good all the time. Thanks
Nice staff, great food. Perfect spot for people in downtown Ottawa to find tasty Haitian food.
Apparently the opening and closing time displayed is only a suggestion. I placed an order for pickup on uber eats at 6:35pm, they accept it. It showed it would take about 20 mins for the order to be completed. I went to pick it up at 7 pm, the restaurant is closed, even though the displayed business hours showed 9pm. No call or warning to advise me that they’re closing early and can’t fulfill my order. I usually really enjoy this restaurant, but this was a very disappointing experience.
First time trying Haitian food - the griot was excellent, the pikliz and plantain were both good, and there was a very generous serving of rice. Overall great bang for buck. Service was friendly.
My one very minor gripe is that I think I was overcharged - I paid $25.33 after tax and tip, when the medium-sized griot pre-tip and tax is supposed to be $17.
Would definitely come back.

probably one of my favourite places to go in Ottawa for takeout! Every time I’ve been here, I've always been served phenomenal food and the customers service has always been kind and warm.

Love this place, one of the best Haitian spots in the city. Love that they have $10 lunch specials too. Good service, great food, would be nice if the atmosphere was more inviting. By this I mean the decor etc could be better, it wouldn't take much. But, great takeout spot.
