I've had breakfast/brunch here for years and they aren't open in the evening, but I'd never had lunch. Until today.
The Smokehouse Burger is criminally good and is arguably (with whatever authority I can muster) one of the best burgers in Ottawa.
I'm sad for past me that it's taken this long to discover.

It was my first time eating at the Royals Restaurant and I can definitively say that this has been by far the best home fries I have ever tasted! And the rest of our meal was also just as good! In my opinion, this is the best breakfast place in all of Ottawa! I look forward to coming back to check out the rest of the menu! Thank you!

We’ve only been here for breakfast but Royals always delivers! If you want to try breakfast from a restaurant that cares about the quality of their food and has creative menu options, do not miss out on this one. We’ve always loved their omelettes but this time I decided to try their Texan breakfast. The homefries are always on point (best in the city imho) but the star of the show in the Texan is their house smoked brisket. A must try! Not to mention their smoked farmers sausage and baked beans. The best breakfast combo I have ever had, bar none. Service is always great as well - just an awesome place to enjoy a good meal in a friendly local restaurant.

The Royals continues to be our favourite breakfast spot, and every visit reminds us why. The attention to detail here is unmatched - from the presentation of each plate to the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Their service is always friendly, welcoming, and impressively efficient, no matter how busy they are.
The eggs Benedict deserves a special mention: hands down the best in the city. The hollandaise is perfectly balanced, the eggs are consistently poached to perfection, and you can genuinely taste the high-quality, fresh ingredients that go into every bite.
Co-owners Derick and Nick have built something truly exceptional. Their passion shows in both the food and the atmosphere they’ve created.
A highlight today was being offered a sample of their smoked brisket bacon - absolutely out-of-this-world delicious. Another example of the creativity and care they put into everything they serve.

Had a very good breakfast at Royals! The home fries were absolutely the best I’ve had: crispy, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. Bacon was delicious and had that ideal crispy texture. The service was friendly, and the wait time wasn’t bad. Overall, a great experience at this cozy family diner. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
