My girlfriend and I decided to order Ruby Inn for pick up on our way home to Stittsville. We both grew up in the south and hadn’t had Ruby Inn for almost a decade. We had heard that the quality had gone downhill over the years but decided to give it a shot for old times sakes.

We called around 5:10pm and the gentleman was very nice over the phone, and stated our order would be ready within 15-20 minutes. We arrived in 15 minutes and were immediately greeted with the same nostalgic smell that we remembered, the red wallpaper and a smile at the counter. Our food was ready less than 5 minutes later and after a pleasant exchange with the staff we were on our way back to Stittsville.

45 minutes later we sat to eat, our food was still hot and we were relieved to find the food looked, and tasted just as we remembered it. The portions weren’t as before, inflation had hit them hard and the spare rips were a miss but it was nice to have something that hasn’t really changed (taste wise) since our childhood.

We will be back,

Thank you :)

Not really service, not really an atmosphere. It's a takeout place solely walk in pay for your food and get out.But the food is excellent.

I used to come to Ruby Inn growing up, when the food was fantastic — generous portions, fresh ingredients, and some of the best eggrolls in the city. Sadly, those days are long gone.

My recent visit was horrible. The food was cold, soggy, and the portions were shockingly small. The eggrolls have gone from the best in the city to some of the worst I’ve ever had. On top of that, the place looks dirty and outdated — it honestly feels like a dump now.

Not to mention how overpriced everything is for such low quality and tiny portions.

I’m truly disappointed with how far this restaurant has fallen. Avoid at all cost.

Ignore all the critics this is a southend Ottawa institution. Challenges Golden Palace for best egg rolls in the city. Chinese takeouts like this one are quickly fading away Sadly 😥. The building will unfortunately be torn down soon never to return. I will be returning soon Garlic spare ribs special fried rice almond chicken soo guy and of course egg rolls. Say hi to the owners wonderful people. 54 years RIP

I ordered my usual a dozen egg rolls and I’ve been noticing over time they’ve been getting more expensive but this time they went too far they were overcooked even had a burned type look and texture to the eggroll and I just feel like I couldn’t taste the eggroll like I normally do and enjoy it in the plum sauce and after listening to the owners excuses I had enough!!!
I will never order here again if you wanna spend three dollars and ten cents per egg roll, which is subpar be my guest.
Golden Palace at Woodruff and Carling Avenue hands-down are by far the best now and much bigger and only two dollars per egg roll and very consistent.
I’m truly disappointed with Ruby Inn.

I cannot recommend this place. While the service is friendly, the food quality and value I got for my food was terrible.

My order came to $58 after tax for one General Tsao Chicken, one Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls, and three egg rolls. The woman at the counter did explain portion sizing to me beforehand which was fair and I went ahead anyway (first time, perhaps I’ll be blown away by the quality).

Well…the chicken in the general tsao dish was stale and stringy - not fresh at all, impossible to chew and it went right into the garbage.

The chicken balls were ok, I’ve had much better elsewhere.

Finally, the egg rolls tasted like a cheap knock off you’d find in a freezer section of any grocery store.

Review the menu and you’ll find they’re $3-5 more for everything. For this kind of premium, I’d expect much better in quality than they’re offering. Honestly, you’re better off going back to your favourite Chinese takeout than giving this one a try.

Food was much better when old owners were there. Their prices have gone up drastically!! Spend your money wisely elsewhere.
People are not very friendly either!!

I spent $60 for a no 2 & 12 egg rolls. The quantity was very very very small & the egg rolls were over cooked & dry. I used to go there all the time even from across the city. It will be my last time. What a waste of money....very very very disappointed😞😥

Very disappointed - poor experience trying to order takeout delivery. The girl who answered the phone had no people skills whatsoever — very rude. Kept me on hold for 5 minutes then came abruptly said “you’re outside our delivery area - sorry bye!” and abruptly hung up on me!! Didn’t even give me the option to go pick up instead. Not impressed AT ALL! I don’t even care if the food is fantastic…no excuse for such awful service!

Ordered 4 dishes and a wonton soup for delivery. Extremely overpriced - came up to over $120 +tip
Portions are very small - you’d think for $100 you’d get enough for 3 people but it wasn’t! Food was mediocre.

I truly wish this was a full restaurant as it
Really is the best Chinese food in the city. While other places cut corners , this place maintains the best dishes as it always has

I was a regular customer with Ruby's and after the original owners sold the business it went to hell. The food is awful poor quality and small portions. I will never purchase from them again.
