I have been ordering Chinese Food from this restaurant for approximately 40 years. It was until approximately 5years ago the place to go in the South End. Food like the Golden Palace was always on the slightly high side but the quality was exceptional.
That has now all changed.
Food is inferior quality with the same high prices.
Stay away.

It may look a little run down, but don't let that fool you. Best chinese food in the city. Try the beef hunan, it's amazing

I’ve ordered from this place a couple times in the past the food is OK. The portions are horrible and the woman that works. There has zero people skills and completely ignorant to the customers. I called on New Year’s Day for a combination plate and I was told that there was no combination plates on that day and no half orders, if I wanted to order supper for me and the family it would’ve caused well over $80. That’s when I found another Chinese restaurant that I am now a regular customer too and I will never go to Ruby’s again.

Hello, Bonjour
I am writing to give the owner some feedback on our takeout order today but could not obtain the email address.
Our order consisted of four eggrolls($12.40), beef fried rice ($12)and Cantonese chow mein ($20) We received only one fortune cookie. The total came to $50.74
In comparison Craig Henry Chinese food that we sometimes order from offers these prices:
four eggrolls($6.80), beef fried rice ($9.55) and Cantonese chow mein ($15.35) One fortune cookie .65). =$32.35 + tax = $36.55
The total is a difference of $14 for 3 items!
While we have enjoyed food from the Ruby Inn before, we believe you should lower your prices to keep in line with competitors.

Long time customer, my last visit I got chicken ball sauce on the side, paid extra for that and didn't get it. I called and the old Chinese woman said NO, I put it in the bottom of the bag, I said no it's not there, she was argumentative and rude, put me on hold and didn't come back, they would not answer my call back. My wife went the next day to pick one up and the old woman was still insisting that we got the sauce. DISGUSTING CUSTOMER SERVICE and OVERPRICED FOOD. All over a 1 dollar, red chicken ball sauce. MY WIFE AND I DON'T LIKE BEING CALLED A LIAR !!!!!
IN FACT YOU ARE THE LIAR.

Beyond expensive…. Like beyond!!! We order chicken fried roll ($20) which was a very small portion, not worth $20. I think there was maybe 5 small pieces of chicken ( the size you feed a baby).
Eggs $35 for 12 of them, they were good but have gone down hill from a few years ago. Chicken soo guy ($15) was gross, the amount of oil that was dripping off the pieces of chicken we could of fried it again.
We will never order from here again, a complete rip off for not even average Chinese food. Please take our advise and go else where. Extremely disappointing since we really use to enjoy this place.

We have literally been buying Rubys since the 1960s. John used to always know who i was when I came in. He would ask about my father, comment on my mother. Rubys is our Christmas Eve dinner, homecoming and birthday celebrations meals and favorite "treat" when we want to indulge. We would ordered egg rolls and freeze them and bring them to my brother during University out of town. We made sure to order during the pandemic to help keep them open and employees employees.
Recently we've noticed a decrease in quality and quantity of food. We noticed the prices skyrocketing. We wrote it off to the pandemic. We also felt sad when we saw so many negative reviews.
Tonight however has changed how we feel. A 8.60 wonton soup has cost them our business going forward.
For 50 plus years our order has often included what we call "won ton chips." When we ordered tonight we received won ton soup. I called to clarify and asked if, when the delivery driver was out next, could they make this mistake right.
Rather than adhering to the FIRST rule of business, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT, the gentleman who answered the phone, declined to make it right and actually ARGUED with me about how I ordered.
For the record I should have asked for "Fried Won Tons" however when I didn't say that, and there are literally only TWO items on the menu beginning with "Won Ton" she could have clarified. She also was so quick to get off the phone she did not review our order either.
Yet somehow this is my fault. For the record we live literally 3.8km away. Deep fried won tons cost less than $7.
So, hope it was worth Rubys.

Used to super good. Now they have small small portions and not as fresh anymore. Always late opening. Very dirty on the inside with no chair waiting.

Chicken balls are one bite each. Spare ribs are small and the meat is hard, the sauce is watery.

Ordered chow mein and ma po tofu
Me and my partner are vegetarians and the mapo tofu has no ingredients listed anywhere, but it’s covered in beef and fish.
Chow mein comes with no noodles even though it’s technically a noodle dish? It was just boiled bean sprouts and celery
These two items cost $40. When I called to ask for clarification I just got a “it is what it is “ answer and confirmation none of the items listed have their ingredients posted. So if you go, ask for info on every item I guess?

We ordered this evening for pick-up. We paid $99.05 for an order of chicken balls, 6 egg rolls, half order of garlic spare ribs, 1 order of chicken fried rice and general tao chicken. Very disappointed, the general tao chicken was very chewy the brocolli was not ediable. Egg rolls were chewy as well. The quality of food was absolutely brutal. Not the Ruby I remember. Very disappointing.
