The atmosphere was great, but it was far too noisy. The food was excellent. It was my friend’s birthday, and we asked for a small cupcake or brownie. They did provide one but charged us for it—whereas in many other places, a small treat like that is complimentary for customer satisfaction.

The service was a bit slow (I was done my first pint before the server came to take our orders), even though anything we ordered came out quick. Just really slow to take our orders, and no checks between dropping off food and bringing us the bill. That aside, they have a great selection of taps. I'm a cider drinker, and I liked having 4 to choose from. The food portions were also decent sizes, and tasted pretty good (I had a well-proportioned Shepherd's Pie, and my spouse had a coconut curry that he was quite pleased with). The prices were decent as well. Next time we're in Ottawa, we'd consider eating here again.

Spent a memorable night with colleagues at Sir John A Pub during my stay in Ottawa, enjoying good beers so kindly served by Sofia! A pub that I definitely recommend and where I will come back for sure.

I have been going here for many years and am fond of the place. They have a very large selection of beers on tap (~50+) and a nice big patio (no afternoon sun). Minus one star because they don't have any prices for the beer on the menu and the volume you get varies between beers you order. I think their standard pour is smaller than the other pubs on Elgin that promise 20oz.

I was very disappointed in the quality of the food here. Burgers were 20$ or more, and they were frozen patties. Tasted like Harvey's.. poutine was ok. My husband ordered sweet potato fries, but they gave him onion rings that were burnt... i wouldn't recommend the burgers... seems like a great place for beer thou, they had a huge beer selection.

Unfortunately, our waiter was extremely rude, creating an unfriendly atmosphere. It felt like they were doing us a favor by giving us a table, likely because it was a Saturday night. I was so upset by the waiter's unprofessional behavior that I left without even trying the food, so my rating is only for the environment and service.
