Great food absolutely terrible lighting. Sat in a booth and it was lit with one overhead flood light I looked around and all the booths were lit this way. It's like being interrogated. When are restaurants going to learn that you do not light people with flood lights or pot lights, these are accent lights.

Food was delicious. Partner had the French dip and I had the Baja fish tacos and drink (don’t recall the name but it was vodka, soda and their state slush). We both really enjoyed their fries which were perfectly seasoned and came with two sides: ketchup and dill dip - to die for! Our waitress was excellent! Perfect service on her end. However when we first entered the restaurant, the greeter was like a deer in headlights. She didn’t say a word and just stared blankly at us until we had to ask for a table for two. Hence why I gave 4 stars for service. Poor first impression of our first time here, but everyone and the food helped resolve that rather quickly. It helped that the place was packed and reasonably priced which hinted this was a place people like to go. The menu was also not overwhelmingly huge which means food stays fresh. I would definitely come back here again.

The old fashioned and pretzel sticks were delicious! The Bangkok bowl I had was good. Our waitress Megan was wonderful - attentive and genuinely friendly. I went with friends and we will definitely be returning!

Have been to State and Main twice in 2025. Marks for tasty fries. more so the first time I was at the west end location. Marks for the French Dip. Marks for the Spicy Tuna power bowl.
Marks for the service. No marks for the sirloin steaks. I had the steak in sesame ginger sauce with Bang Bang shrimp. The steak was ordered medium rare and was chewy almost every bite. The shrimp were very good. What's up with no fries or mashe potatoes or vegetables with this plate though.? Another in the group had The Sirloin. It was also a bit chewy. I don't know why a restaurant bothers with Sirloin unless they ensure it is top quality or marinated. I suggest they take it off the menu and stick with Striploin, Ribsteak or Tenderloin or how about something inventive like a slow cooked short rib. The restaurant rectified the situation in my case. I am not sure what State and Main is trying to be....the food is very generic to all the other restaurants around...I think they need to come up with a more inventive menu and separate themselves from the pack.

Went for lunch, had the Teriyaki Rice Bowl. Did not enjoy it, it was over salted, not a nice teriyaki flavour.

We recently dined at State & Main and had a mixed experience that I’d like to share. We tried the calamari and the fish and chips, and for dessert, we went for their matcha cake (or whatever the exact name is on the menu).
In terms of service, our waitress was very friendly and personable, but there were moments where we had to ask another server to find her because we needed a few things, like a dessert menu or some additional attention after our table was cleared.
As for the food, the calamari was enjoyable, though the fish and chips didn't quite hit the mark for my taste. The real standout—though not in a good way—was the dessert. The matcha latte cake was so dense that we needed a knife to cut through it, which definitely suggests it could use a little recipe revision.
Overall, there were some good elements, but there are definitely areas for improvement, especially in pacing the service and refining the dessert. Thanks for the meal!

Been several times now. Today, I had the grilled cheese burger and it was wonderful. Never had a bad meal here yet and always love the service and atmosphere. One of my favorite places to go. Wish I had room for the mocha cake tho as its the best thing. Next time. Thank you all.

Good meal and affordable price
We have been here a few times, and every time the food is amazing, cooked perfectly and their cocktails are always exiting and interesting twists on typical drinks you may have had before!
The summer tequila ranch water cocktail was one of my all time favorite cocktails and became my go to summer drink to make at home! 🍹Recently, their winter Japanese whisky, lime and cherry cocktail was amazing and the flavor combo was superb! Their non alcoholic drinks are also super fun and flavorful.
I would highly recommend their steak and crispy sushi; the ginger soy sauce is the perfect addition and packs some serious flavor!!💣
The French dip sandwich was great, super tender meat, amazing fries and large portion!
Coconut calamari was great!
This place is almost always extremely busy, and for good reason, so I'd certainly recommend making reservations since the wait times are regularly an hour.
