I am writing to express my concern regarding a recent experience at the Subway restaurant located at 180 Elgin Street, Ottawa, ON, which occurred on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at approximately 1:00 PM.
After making a purchase and requesting access to the washroom, I was informed by a staff member that the men's washroom was out of order due to a plumbing issue and that the women's washroom was undergoing renovations. This meant that no functional restrooms were available for customers.
When I asked how the location could operate without a functioning restroom, the staff member stated that he only works an 8-hour shift and therefore uses the washroom at home. I found this comment implausible and expressed that sentiment directly. In my view, the remark was dismissive, dishonest, and reflected a lack of professionalism. It is unreasonable to expect staff or customers in a public-facing food establishment, particularly one located downtown, to operate without basic restroom access. I also strongly believe the response indicated an unwillingness to accommodate customers’ legitimate needs rather than a temporary infrastructure issue.
While I acknowledge that plumbing problems may occur, the absence of any contingency plan and the condescending nature of the response reflect poorly on this location’s customer service standards. Customers deserve clear communication, courtesy, and consideration. I urge your office to investigate this matter and ensure future compliance with both public health and customer care expectations.

Stopped by this Subway and had a mixed experience. A lot of menu items were out of stock, which made it frustrating to figure out what to order. Not the staff’s fault — they were friendly and helpful — but it still made for a less-than-ideal visit.
I ended up trying the new Peri-Peri Chicken sub. Not really my thing, but I can see how others might enjoy it. Prices were as expected, and there weren’t any issues at checkout. Just wish the location had been better stocked.
