Tavern on the hill is an Ottawa's gem! Great show with fireworks in the background while you eat a nice sandwich. Spent quality time with my mom, this place is a hit 10/10. There are lineups though because it's busy, so make sure to arrive early to reserve your seats! Or call ahead! ?

Very disappointing. On a recently warm and gorgeous evening in October, we visited the Tavern on the Hill during a bike ride. The setting is spectacular - great views of the Ottawa River & Parliament. The Tavern has very nice patios with a variety of comfortable seating, with bike racks within a safe view. All sounds good so far, doesn't it? Unfortunately the food was a giant let-down. First, it was all served in plastic take-out containers. What a huge amount of waste we created with 4 of us there for dinner :-( $17 for a single cold pita in a plastic clamshell sliced into small wedges and served with small plastic tubs of hummus & pesto, and even smaller plastic tubs of some pickled vegetables. So. Much. Plastic! The other food we ordered was no more inspiring. The grilled veggie sandwich was cold and a bit soggy - tasted like it was in its paper wrapping all day. Etc. The food was basic, expensive and very disappointing. The potential of the location is so high, the reality is sad. Come on Tavern! Step up your food game to match your very nice patio and fantastic location.

Mediocre food, no table service but the outdoor setting is beautiful with a perfect view on Ottawa River, parliament hill and Major's Hill park. The food and drinks are mediocre to poor quality, but we go there to enjoy the view.

This place features several areas for seating and enjoying a nice drink or/and food.
This place does not operate as a traditional restaurant with service (servers). One must order their drinks and food at the counter, take a number, and somebody will bring the order to the table once ready.
Whenever I have people visiting Ottawa, I make sure to take them to Tavern on the Hill.

Google maps says it’s open but it’s not! Misleading! We were told on a Friday night at 10 pm that the restaurant has closed even though we saw on Google that it’s open till 2am. We walked a lot to see the restaurant and customers were inside but they said at 10 pm that the kitchen has closed.

Great decor, mid-week not busy, plenty of space. The food is horrible. Like I mean horrible. I’m not even a foodie with high standards, it was horrible. The food is served in plastic boxes on cafeteria trays and the food is not warm. I’m genuinely in shock at the contrast between the look/location/price of this place and the taste of the food. We’re a family of four and none of our “meals” were good. The food is like gas station level sandwich level. I’m not exaggerating. Service is poor, not once did someone come check on us. They kept asking if we were done with this or that box when we’re obviously still taking our time eating. And they don’t offer to refill your glass of water, but instead ask if they can take it. We felt rushed. I’n genuinely in awe at how bad the experience was, especially that I always thought it looked great every time I’d walk by. My mind is blown.
