The Hintonburg Public House

We went there for dinner and it was amazing! The best poutine I have ever had! Our hostess was incredible and super friendly and the place had a fantastic vibe. We are hoping to get back there before we head back home. Would highly recommend this place!!!!!

Very nice people and incredible atmosphere. We were a big noisy crowd for a birthday party but they were very nice, friendly, patient and respectful. We had a really great time there 😊

I had a brunch reservation with a friend and we showed up at the appointed time and it was closed with no signs of life inside.
Went elsewhere. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I live in the area and visit the HPH occasionally. I noticed that I reviewed it 5 years ago with a high rating. My wife and I went there this evening 4 Dec 2024, and had a pretty abysmal experience. We started with the pumpkin hummus that was nice except 4 slices of mostly burned bread were provided. Not enough bread for the amount of hummus. We asked for a few more slices and they came burned black as well.

Then our burger and fish and chips came out. The burger was barely okay with a massive dry bun. I pulled the top of the bun off so I could taste the "burger". My wife's fish and chips were deplorable. The cut of fish had been pounded out so much that the fish was about an eighth of an inch thick with a massive amount of greasy batter. My wife tried to soften it and add flavor with the coleslaw but gave up after poking and prodding looking for fish.

It really is sad that the HPH has gone downhill this much and it would take a considerable amount for us to go back. Our two hot apple ciders were the highlight and were barely warm. With a just over $100 bill, I would go to the Third, the Senate, the Oyster House, or anywhere else in the neighborhood.

Finally tried The Hintonburg Public House. It's an English style pub owned by a Canadian publican. I went with the ol' pub standby of fish & chips drizzled with their own signature vinegar. Best of all, it has a great, rotating selection of craft beer including Overflow Brewing's Rise And Shine Wit Beer and Local Brewery's lager. An exemplary pub with great service. Definitely going back.

This place was open on a stat holiday and it was a life saver. Went in for Brunch, which was quite busy, grabbed a table and ordered burgers & grilled cheese. Their potatoes are incredibly good. I highly recommend the grilled cheese too! Favorite brunch spot for sure !

Grilled cheese!

It’s your run of the mill local pub equivalent. It’s not to say it’s bad, there are just some less than ideal aspects which excludes it from my rotation of restaurants: the service was slow, the menu is massive to which it should be two pages not one, and the food was quite average. I could see this place being really fun in the evenings, but early dinner wasn’t exceeding expectations.

I love this place. I've only been twice, but both times the food and service has been really great. It's fairly quiet, with lots of art and oddities to look at.
There also, a nice little patio area too.
