Nice, spacious and very clean rooms. The front desk staff were very kind and helpful. Good location with lots of restaurants, bars and coffee shops nearby.

Our quick getaway from the busy life at home was made perfect by our stay at the Metcalf Hotel. We only reserved for one night, but it felt like a true retreat. The stay was flawless—no issues with parking, and the room was comfortable and clean. The staff was incredibly friendly, approachable, and genuinely welcoming, which made us feel right at home.

The hotel offers a quiet and classy atmosphere, a rare find in the bustling center core of Ottawa. The location is unbeatable, just a 2-minute walk from Parliament Hill.

What made this stay special for me personally is the nostalgic connection—I used to work there from 1984 to 1986, during the time it was renovated and rebranded as The Roxborough Hotel. It was wonderful to see the hotel return to its former glory after being part of the YMCA and Indigo hotel eras. The recent renovation is beautifully done, and I’m very pleased to see the hotel alive and thriving again.

The staff radiates pride and enthusiasm, smiling and busy helping guests—what a refreshing change from many larger chain hotels where service can often be impersonal or indifferent. It’s lovely to see a small, local hotel offering such heartfelt service and care, surpassing even some of the big name hotels.

Highly recommend the Metcalf Hotel for anyone looking for a welcoming, charming, and exceptional stay in Ottawa. Five stars all around!

Got the John Wick Hotel feeling, classic and classy

My husband researched this boutique hotel out of many in Ottawa because it was the closest in proximity to our meeting location. I am so glad he did. We got upgraded to the executive room when we arrived without asking so that was a nice surprise. The room itself was very nice with a king size bed and fridge. As with other high end hotels these days, they did not have a microwave in the room which was fine because they have a great restaurant in the hotel. There is Nespresso coffee in the room with milk and sugar for convenience. The bathroom shower was nice and big with 2 shower heads AND you could open slots at the bottom of the large window that you can open to let the shower steam out!!!! I loved that feature! Our room was cleaned everyday and the staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable in terms of where you can go to get different things in the area. The only downside was the number of unhoused people in the area which unfortunately is common in any downtown area around the world. We still walked everywhere and never felt unsafe including visiting Rideau hall which was down the road from the hotel. Also, the only reason I am not giving the room a full 5 star is because the pillows were just too soft and I ended up straining my neck, luckily it was the last night of our trip. All in all, I will stay here again, it was a really good experience overall.

Food is way too expensive for what you get. Far from a 5 star restaurant at the price of a 5 star restaurant.

Pros: The lobby is absolutely gorgeous with a big skylight and a library. The staff were great, from the housekeepers to the front desk and the restaurant team. We had dinner the first night and the food was very good, drinks from the bar tender was great as well, thank you Brook! The room was cozy and clean, and I loved the bed and pillows.

Cons: I wouldn’t consider this hotel luxury. The rooms are fine, but nothing really stood out. It was clean, but the lack of slippers in the room was surprising. Only one elevator was working, and it had water damage with a few broken lights, which felt a little creepy. What really stood out to me was how understaffed they seemed. I feel like we only saw two desk employees the entire stay. A tall gentleman who checked us in, very kind and helpful, but later we saw him parking cars as well. The young woman working the night shift at the front desk was back the following day, and then we saw her cleaning rooms in her suit!! It honestly looked like they hadn’t gone home. The housekeepers were also a bit loud in the morning when talking to each other in the hallways. I’m sure they did not mean to be rude, just louder than expected when you want to sleep in. Lastly, our room window faced the library. While it’s a beautiful view, it made me feel closed in, especially since the window doesn’t open for fresh air.

Lovely spot to stay. Right in the middle of everything you might need. Plenty of spots to eat, really close to parliament hill, museums, all sorts of historic sights. The room itself was really nice. They have Le Labo bath products which is crazy. My hair has never smelt better.

The hotel is located right between gorgeous restaurants and all the most important sights of Ottawa. Service was friendly and the in-house restaurant “Bistro Cocotte” serves great food.

Good service with reasonably priced rooms. Easy walking distance to Parliament Hill and other attractions. I would stay here again.

I just checked in, and the front desk gave me the key to someone else’s room. Not sure how that could happen but hope it doesn’t happen to you…

There is a heat wave right now, and the A/C in the room can’t maintain a comfortable temperature. The gym is also very hot and humid, and there’s no water or towels available…

The design with the inner courtyard is nice though!

Very clean hotel with neat rooms. The smell of the lobby was amazing. The location is pretty good as it is 7 min walk from downtown.
