The restaurant clearly positions itself in the mid-to-high-end dining space, with a tasting menu concept and refined presentation that suggest an upscale Japanese or fusion experience. The pricing and menu design reflect that intention.

However, the overall experience felt inconsistent, particularly in execution and attention to detail.

To start with the negatives:
Upon being seated, the first plate brought to the table was not properly cleaned, and we had to ask for it to be replaced. While the staff handled the request politely and promptly, this is not something one would expect at this price point.
Additionally, the choice of tableware was disappointing — disposable chopsticks and plastic sauce dishes significantly detracted from the experience and felt out of place given the menu and pricing, breaking the sense of refinement the restaurant aims for.

As for the food:
• The fried items were well executed, though fried dishes are generally difficult to get wrong — solid but not particularly memorable.
• The first fish course was fresh and well-balanced, and one of the stronger dishes of the meal.
• The sushi rice was slightly loose, causing some pieces to lack structure and cohesion, which affected the overall mouthfeel.
• The scallop sushi roll was average and lacked a distinctive element.
• The Wagyu rice was a mixed experience:
• The Wagyu itself was cooked very well, with excellent texture and doneness
• The rice was noticeably oily and quite bland on its own, requiring added sauce
• The sauce leaned sweet-salty; a small amount worked reasonably well with the mushrooms, but overall the dish relied too heavily on seasoning to feel complete

On a positive note, the service was friendly and courteous throughout the meal, and staff were responsive when concerns were raised.

Overall, while the quality of ingredients and technical execution showed potential, the flavor development across dishes still needs further refinement. With more thoughtful seasoning, improved balance, and greater consistency in both food and presentation details, the restaurant could better align with its intended upscale positioning.

Went for the Omakase dinner and while the food was incredible, the overall experience left a lot to be desired. The service felt rushed and more like they were trying to maximize their profit and tips and not ensure the customer experience was top tier. I would liked to have rated the expertise higher, especially given the $400 bill for 2, but when your server forgets to bring you your drink it’s hard to to do that. It was also unfortunate to see the restaurant requesting a tip at payment after adding gratuity to the bill. I’d recommend going here for the food but don’t get your hopes up to be wowed by the ambiance or service.

It was our first time trying the Omakase experience and we were amazed.
Food: The quality and freshness was 10/10, the flavours were amazing, the first bite was HEAVENLY. The chef was showing us the ingredients and the types of fish, the staff was explaining how fresh it was, where it was coming from and what were the ingredients of each dishes. We had the option of adding the uni (sea urchin) for an extra 25$ and we don’t regret it. It was definitely unique but so fresh, and the staff took the time to come asked us about how we liked it or not after the meal. Drinks were beautifully crafted and delicious (we had a berry based vodka one). The wine recommendation was spot on and delicious.

Service: Service was really great. Chef Hikaru (who speaks Japanese only) found ways to communicate with us (he has a little translater tool) and make us feel special. The rest of the staff and owner were attentive, kind and entertained us.

Atmosphere: Atmosphere was lovely and intimate. Sitting at the bar was great to look at the chef and experience this fully. It wasn’t too loud. Lighting was dimmed and perfect for the atmosphere.

It’s an expensive experience, but we felt like it was definitely worth it for the freshness of the food, the taste, the service and ambiance. We will definitely come back for a special occasion!

Great ambience. Food presentation was well done; however, dishes were unimpressive. Not worth the cost. Disappointing overall

Great environment, great service, great vibe, overall I would recommend this to anyone and everyone! I typically don't like half the stuff they served. But I loved it all. CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!

Honestly fantastic find.. worth the cost x100! Amazing dishes. I just wish the vibe inside was as refined / elevated to the height of the culinary experience (ie better music/ hosting).

Fantastic Omakase dining experience at Hikaru by Tomo tonight. The nigiri was expertly prepared by chef Hikaru. Fish was super fresh, rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned and was served at the perfect temperature. I'm hands down an Uni person but our favorite tonight was definitely the Negitoro handroll (green onion tuna)....fantastic flavors and textures....an absolute symphony in the mouth. Excellent service by Ann who was a wonderful host. Can't wait for their more traditional Omakase restaurant to open in the future....I will be there. Enjoy.

Excellent experience with Omakase. The food was delicious and very fresh, the chef prepared the sushi right in front of us and the owner came over to explain each dish/course which was so interesting and made the experience even more enjoyable. The portions were perfect we left feeling satisfied and full. It's definitely an expensive night out, for the omakase (16 courses) + a bottle of sake was about $500 for two people which felt worth it for the experience. Overall I would definitely recommend.
