Mackie's is a Port Stanley favorite, known for its classic beach food. This spot is famous for its fresh-cut fries, secret sauce, and refreshing orangeade. It's a quick and easy stop for anyone visiting the beach, offering a taste of nostalgia and a perfect summer meal.

This time I ordered 5 hamburgers with double fried onions on all. The burgers were overcooked and they didn’t have double onions on them. Didn’t find out until all the way home. I find the fried onions give them a really nice taste but there were not enough so they were not as good. The other people that I bought for threw them out and said they were terrible. Last time I also bought French fries and they were garbage. Years ago their fries were delicious NOT anymore though. Disappointed with Mackie’s.

I’m not trying to be hard on them but more so heard maybe…. I’m almost 50 and have been coming here since I was 5 years old probably. It’s safe to say I’ve came here for 40 years. That’s scary alone but here’s my thought and question…… has Mackies ever changed the menu in that time frame…. Changed the hot dog or hamburger (which are really below sub par quality)
I don’t want the staples changed like fries with mackie sauce or the Orange Aid…. But how about create a new and improved burger and choice of side toppings at extra costs. You have a prime time location and should have 5 star food not 2/3 star. Improve the quality of food and hot dogs etc. I live in town now and eat at the other beach side restaurant a short 3 min walk from you as your menu is plane and never changes…. Not in 40 years really….

Very disapointed in the fries.
The whole reason for going there as they were known for
The fries and gravy.
Worst I've ever had, was not
Worth $12.00 for 2 $ 3.00 cups.
The drive was better.
If you want really good fries,
Go to Laki's in Smithville.
They walk all over these.
So sad, Port Stanley off my list.
Everyone has their own tastes
And I know a lot of people like
It, you be the judge!
Try it once and decide.
Have a nice day!

Mackies has kept their prices affordable over the years. It’s quick service diner style food and they do a great job. And thank you for the gluten free nuggets! It’s a classic!

Great location right beside the beach/at the entrance. Large space that has seating inside and outside, as well as bathrooms and arcade games.
Very fair pricing for what you get by the beach!
Great selection too.
Pictured are the fries, cheeseburger and cod on a bun.

Port Stanley has plenty of charm, but no trip to the beach here feels complete without a stop at Mackie’s. This long-loved local spot is practically part of the town’s DNA—just 200 feet from the water and serving up affordable, beach-day fuel that always hits the spot.
The vibe is exactly what you want from a lakeside eatery: casual, friendly, and just a little bit nostalgic. The staff greet you with a smile, the place is kept clean, and the menu is wallet-friendly enough that you won’t feel guilty grabbing an extra order of fries (trust me, you’ll want to).
One of Mackie’s best features is its seating area right near the beach—perfect for sandy feet, dripping swimsuits, and soaking in the sound of the waves while you eat. If you’re rolling straight off the sand, just know there’s no change room, but they’ve thought ahead with a foot-washing station outside, which is a lifesaver after a barefoot stroll on the beach. Parking is even free behind the restaurant (though limited), which feels like a bonus this close to the lake.
Between the friendly staff, unbeatable location, and no-fuss comfort food, Mackie’s nails that laid-back, lakeside vibe. It’s not just a restaurant—it’s part of the Port Stanley beach experience.
Verdict: Sun, sand, fries, and friendly faces. Mackie’s is Port Stanley’s go-to for classic beach eats with a side of lake breeze.

MAY 23, ordered 2 dogs, 2 fries, 2 drinks @1:24pm, got order at 1:50. Fries soggy and cold, dogs smelled of a steamer than needed to be cleaned and drinks were warm. Mgmt refused to do anything because of how busy they were. Been coming here since 1960, but this was my last. Poor service, poor quality food. $25 for bad food isn't woth it. And washrooms are in poor shape, leaking urinals, minimal stream from sinks.

The quality of food is the worse I've seen in 60 years. The fries are so dark and taste like old oil. Hotdog was under cooked. Orangeade is watered down. Not the Mackies we use to go to as kids, some 60 years ago. Darn, I served better fries when I worked at Galloways.
Maybe it's time for a food inspector from the province to check this place out.

Well things haven't changed much. No more food combos. A hot dog, small fries, and orangeaide will be over $10. Fries, when will they use fresh cooking oil? Orange drink is not traditional, too sweet. Such a disappointment, not like it use to be in the 1960's. Time for this place to be replaced or stiff competition, as there are no alternatives at the beach.

On our recent visit to Mackie’s — during a time when the restaurant wasn’t busy at all — a mother suddenly collapsed near the entrance. People nearby, both her kid and strangers, immediately rushed to help and called emergency services. Shockingly, the staff showed no concern whatsoever.
The young employees at the registers continued calling “next in line,” and two managers looked over, ignored the situation entirely, then disappeared into the back even after my husband asked them to assist. It was extremely disappointing to see that the leadership only seems to engage with customers when money is involved — not when someone is clearly suffering on their premises.
Thankfully, lifeguards from the nearby beach stepped in to care for the woman until firefighters and paramedics arrived and transported her to the hospital.
This was my first and definitely last time visiting Mackie’s. I truly hope no one else ever has to experience something like this. Stay safe, everyone.

I love chilli dogs. Thank god this place exists. I only have one issue with the place. You shouldn’t be allowed to bring orangeade in to the lake. their orangeade is tasty but also stains . I was there last week and some jerk brought his orangeade in to the water and got it all over my wife’s white bathing suit. Which is now orangeade coloured and smells of vodka.
When I tried to address this with the man it escalated in to a verbal assault and eventually an aqua based brawl in which I lost my footing and conceded. Had it not been for the sand bar in front of tower 4 I would have surely had my way with him.
If it weren’t for the orangade in the water and that apes hubris I would have had the perfect Port Stanley vacation.
Also I wanna apologize for everything I said about jumbo the elephant during the verbal assault. I know now that it was the people of St.thomas that did it and not the citizens of Port Stanley.

A big thank you to Mackie’s from the Port Stanley Lions for letting them use the parking lot for their weekly car show. It is a fun event every Friday night where the Lions raise money and that money stays in Port Stanley, caring cupboard, Kettle Creek School, the fire station etc. this would not be possible without the generous support of Mackie’s, the great staff and the Lale family. The food here is terrible. Obviously the oil used for the fry has lost its appeal making the fry and cod tasteless. Pop corn is ok.?Salad contain water. There’s no value for money.
