I don’t usually post unless it’s really bad and this was bad. Flavourless food. Really upset I spent over $30 on food that tastes worse than microwaveable food.

Nice enough Chinese restaurant. There were 6 of us, we got the dinner for 5 and had no complaints. There was a little left over that we boxed up to take home. Service was quick and informal.

The restaurant has been renovated a while ago, the interior is quite spacious and clean. The menu has a lot of dishes to choose from. It not only has typical things from HK cafe, but also has dishes like a HK seafood restaurant. The price is very reasonable as well. The quality of the food is above average. Everything we ordered was pretty good, no complaint. The only thing is their service. Well, there is a lady very rude and not paying attention. I hope it is just this individual waitress. We hope to go back more often to try on their other items on the menu.

Have been a loyal customer ordering food for 7 years and I moved within the delivery area as per the map on the menu and now they will not deliver unless I spend over $120 these people don’t care about their long time customer all they care about is making money I’m totally insulted they advertise where they will deliver too but them ask for a minimum order
I would not order from this place stay away from them they should be ashamed of themselves

We were impressed with the noodle as it was nicely stir fried. Noodle is dry and not soggy with smokey flavor. However, we found the curry rice dish a tad skimpy with only one piece of pork chop. It only looked presentable but flavor is nothing to talk about. With that said, they do have a good variety of different plates for selection. Price is a little steep but worth a try for sure.

Yesterday, May 10, 2026, We spent $172.90 for Mother’s Day take out order, Server Angela. We ordered 4 Cantonese Chow Mein $79.80 - the noodles were very very soggy, hardly any vegetables, there was this jelly stuff stuck on the soggy cauliflower and noodles, two pieces of pieces of bok choy, two pieces of red peppers on each container, all the cauliflower was too soft to eat, no taste to this dish. They forgot the S&S sauce for the Chicken Balls - $15.50, didn’t eat sauce missing. The Chicken and Pork fried rice; they put too much soy sauce - $12.95 each. The only dishes we could eat were the Wonton Soup, Egg Rolls and Fried Wonton Chips.p
We are very disappointed ☹️☹️☹️, we have been customers for a long time, but have noticed their food quality has declined. We would appreciate a refund for the food we weren’t able to eat, we still have the Cantonese Chow Mein in the fridge.

A Remarkable Rebirth with Surprisingly Refined Cantonese Comfort Food
With so many underwhelming new eateries opening across the neighbourhood lately, it is genuinely refreshing to stumble upon an unexpected culinary surprise.
A longtime fixture in Richmond Hill for over 30 years, Choice of the Orient was previously regarded as a dependable spot for decent, no-frills Chinese fare. Recently, however, management undertook a complete renovation and rebranding initiative — retaining the English name while adopting a new Chinese identity. The restaurant has successfully reinvented itself from a conventional neighbourhood Chinese restaurant into a dual-concept operation: a Hong Kong-style café serving breakfast and lunch during the day, and a wok-hay-focused Cantonese kitchen during dinner service.
The renovation has also modernized the dining room considerably, giving the space a brighter, cleaner, and more contemporary atmosphere while still maintaining comfortable neighbourhood charm. Thankfully, pricing has remained accessible and very reasonable.
To evaluate the kitchen’s capabilities, we selected several classic à la carte dishes that typically reveal the strengths — or weaknesses — of a Cantonese kitchen. What followed was an unexpectedly outstanding meal. Every one of the five dishes arrived promptly, piping hot, and executed with an impressive degree of care and technical skill. Seasoning was consistently balanced and confident throughout.
Highlights from Our Meal
Sweet and Sour Pork
Exceptionally crisp with a beautifully balanced glaze that avoided the overly sweet or aggressively tangy profile often found elsewhere.
Stir-Fried Sliced Beef with Chinese Kale (Gai Lan)
Tender, well-marinated beef paired with vibrant, perfectly cooked greens. The dish carried excellent wok-hay aroma and depth.
Braised Silken Tofu with Wild Mushrooms in Clay Pot
Comforting yet surprisingly nuanced, featuring a deeply savoury sauce enhanced by fermented black beans and earthy mushroom flavours.
Hong Kong Typhoon Shelter-Style Jumbo Prawns
Easily one of the standout dishes of the evening. The prawns were expertly cooked and coated in an addictive mixture of crispy garlic and shallots, delivering a satisfying balance of savoury, sweet, and subtle heat.
Sautéed Free-Range Chicken with Rice Roll Crepes in Hot Pot
Richly caramelized ingredients enveloped in a glossy brown sauce, with the rice roll crepes absorbing all the savoury flavours beautifully.
Beyond the food itself, service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming throughout the meal.
Choice of the Orient has quietly transformed itself into one of the more pleasant Cantonese dining surprises in the Richmond Hill area — serving flavourful, skillfully prepared comfort food at excellent value. We will absolutely be returning.

Slightly pricey because I think they markup the prices because they stated cold drinks included. Food is mediocre/standard. Service was alright; just waited a long time for server to collect the money and receive my change

From my experience, this place offers a quintessential Canadian-Chinese culinary experience, the kind of food you'll find in any small town across the country. You've got your meal for two with chicken balls, chicken fried rice and egg rolls. You've got your chow meins with those little orange noodles in a white paper bag. You've got your fortune cookies.

Bonus for us vegetarians — you've got a menu that surpasses most small-town joints, including Chinese broccoli (gai lan) in garlic, ma po tofu and a veggie noodle dish. You've got a lot more on the menu, too, but I haven't yet had a chance to try it.

What this isn't — I wouldn't say this place is trying to be Michelin-star gourmet. From what we had, this wasn't the kind of place I'd bring my millennial friends who like dim sum, calamari and intestines. Maybe we could come for the café experience (but I haven't personally tried that yet!). So far, from what I've had, this is the kind of place that I need to help my relatives break out of the Mandarin box.

The takeout service was super fast and friendly. It took me about 15 minutes from the call to the door, and the food was packaged and ready to go as soon as I was there. The price point is excellent, too.

All in all, I liked it. I'd go back. Thank you for existing and for all the work you do!

One of the best services I’ve experienced at a Cantonese restaurant in the Greater Toronto Area. The staff were great. I only hope the washroom can be kept a bit cleaner.

A typical HK-style Chinese restaurant located in the heart of Richmond Hill on Yonge Street, it offers a variety of dishes ranging from drinks to fried noodles, vermicelli soups, pork bone soup, and more. The service was excellent, and both the food and prices were reasonable. The restaurant features booth seating and round tables, making it suitable for groups of different sizes. It is recommended to try the dessert—French toast topped with cream, milk, and Ovaltine powder.
