McCowan Fish & Chips in Scarborough offers wonderfully crispy halibut and cod with moist, tender fish. The quality of the food is consistent, with no hint of old oil in the batter. The friendly staff provides a welcoming experience, showing genuine care for every customer. It's a place worth bringing friends to enjoy delicious meals. The fish and chips are good, but can be oily. Onion rings were bad, but all the fish was great. The coleslaw was just average and the homemade tartar sauce wasn’t actually that great. Some customers did not receive Malta vinegar or other condiments ordered. The ambiance makes you feel like you're in the 1960s, but not run down. It’s a clean, small place that makes excellent crispy and fresh halibut fish. Their fries are homemade and not too salty, crispy on the outside and soft inside. It is family run with friendly service.
