I walked into Ola Amigos Tacos in Smithville with hope in my heart and hunger in my stomach. I left with neither.

From the very first bite, I knew I had made a terrible mistake. The taco—if it can even be called that—felt like it had been assembled by someone who has only heard rumors of what a taco is. The tortilla was limp and lifeless, like it had already given up on existence before it reached my hands. It didn’t cradle the fillings; it surrendered to them.

The flavors were somehow loud and absent at the same time. Every bite clashed with the next, like ingredients that had never met before and strongly resented the introduction. I kept chewing, hoping something—anything—would improve, but instead the experience deepened into confusion and regret. This wasn’t food that comforted, surprised, or satisfied. It was food that challenged me. Emotionally.

The textures alone deserve their own warning label. Mushy where it shouldn’t be, dry where moisture was desperately needed, and uneven in a way that made every bite feel like a gamble I kept losing. I found myself staring at the taco, wondering how something with so many ingredients could taste so aggressively wrong.

By the time I finished (out of stubbornness, not enjoyment), I felt like I had endured a culinary endurance test rather than enjoyed a meal. This wasn’t a quick stop for tacos—it was a dramatic lesson in lowered expectations.

To be fair, taste is subjective. Maybe this place has fans. Maybe this was an off day. But in my personal experience, Ola Amigos Tacos in Smithville delivered one of the most disappointing taco encounters I’ve ever had. I wanted bold, comforting street food energy. What I got felt like a breakup letter written in seasoning.

I didn’t leave angry. I left changed.

Tried a burrito here for the first time today and it was delicious!! I ordered the spicy chicken burrito with all of the toppings and it was so full of flavour! The only thing I’d say is that the chicken pieces weren’t that hot (temperature) so that’s the only thing that could be improved. I appreciate the way that the staff mixed all of the ingredients together with the sauces in my wrap so that the flavours were combined!!! I’ve never had that at other burrito places. Awesome spot! Will be back!

Food is ok. They however serve soft ice cream. Which is very good but their cones taste stale. They are good for our town because it’s different food than Pizza places.
They support community of Smithville and that is great!
