I had high hopes for Mercer Kitchen in Stratford after hearing so many great things, but unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. From the moment we arrived, the lacklustre service set the tone - despite the restaurant being quite empty, our server made no real effort to engage or provide attentive service.
As for the food, it was a major letdown. The flavours were unpleasantly bitter, and everything seemed heavily saturated with deep fry oil, leaving it greasy and unappetizing. The quality just didn’t match the hype, and we left feeling unsatisfied and regretful of the visit. Definitely not the experience we were excited for.
I rarely leave reviews, but I was compelled to share our disappointment. I’m not looking for an apology from the owner; I simply hope this feedback is taken constructively to improve the overall dining experience. Sadly, I can’t recommend Mercer Kitchen based on our visit.
Went here for my birthday lunch and left disappointed. The maki roll practically could have done a back stroke with the amount of fryer oil on the plate.. the pork belly bao was uneatable due to the collard greens being the most bitter thing I have ever eaten along with the “pork belly” being nothing but chunks of gelatine. And last but not least the burger was below average, zero seasoning on it. $80 lunch by the way. Won’t be back!
Service was also awful, server had a rude ego to her.
haven’t encountered such rude and disrespectful service in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the hostess was unfriendly and unwelcoming. When we asked if it was possible to move to a more comfortable table in an almost empty restaurant, she simply ignored us and continued with what she was doing. When we decided to leave, she continued to ignore us completely — not a single word or glance. It was a very unpleasant experience that really spoiled what could have been an enjoyable evening.
We were in Stratford for our 40th wedding anniversary, to catch some plays, take in the sights, and sample food. This restaurant did not disappoint. We went on a busy evening pre theatre time and the restaurant was bustling. We worried we would not have enough time it was so busy but the service and kitchen were so efficient. We never felt rushed, the service was excellent and the food did not disappoint. We had the Mijikai Maki to start, it was really good. Fish was nice and cool in the centre and the outside was nice and crispy. It was a large roll so perfect to share. I had the Bento box which was equally good, well portioned and presented. My husband had the Buttermilk Fried chicken and he loved it. Really crispy, yet the chicken inside was nice and moist. There were many things on the menu that I found appealing, so next time in Stratford we will be back.
No elevator, if you care.
Wow Terrible Nachos. Corn chips were stale and presentation was poor for the price.
Thai noodles was a disaster. We asked for no protein and without asking us added extra veggies. Was so hard to reach the noodles. Such poor presentation . You can see the pile of veggies that were removed. Fries came burnt. Sent them back.
Great food! Came with my bf and got karaage, the buttermilk chicken and the crispy chicken bowl (lots of fried chicken!). Was very tasty and a big portion. Service was great and our server was very friendly!
Food and drink were both outstanding. Our waitress was incredible and her recommendations were all on point. Absolutely recommend
We went here for breakfast. The food was amazing and fast! Great service and friendly staff.
We loved our meal at Mercer! I loved the karaage chicken and the peanut crunch salad was very good and tasted incredibly fresh! Thank you for making my birthday so special! Also want to give a shout out to our server Elisia (spelling?) who was very kind and lovely to talk to!

The food was delicious! Highly recommend the Korean BBQ chicken rice bowl and the Bento. The karaage was the best I've had. The service was fantastic. Our server was very attentive and helpful. Such a cool place with an awesome atmosphere.
We stopped in for a beer and some lunch on the Outside patio, service was great, food was delicious, nice clean environment. Traffic wasn’t to loud, Will definitely be back.
Met a good friend here for lunch. Excellent food, great service, really good IPA.
Classic burger dish : sweet potato fries and hamburger meat served burnt .
They brought me another dish and sweet potato fries were burnt again and hamburger meat was pink .
I do not recommend this dish .
This is a great place to stay when you're visiting Stratford. It's located on the main street close to everything in Stratford. It has an open air parking lot at the back of the hotel for guests for the reasonable price of $15/day.
We were greeted warmly when we arrived and the check-in process was friendly and efficient. Our room was large, clean and comfortable - and quiet even though we looked over the main street. Wifi worked solidly throughout our stay.
We had lunch, dinner and breakfast and enjoyed them all. The is interesting with some dishes with distinct Asian flavours.
