Rene’s Bistro is fantastic. We had the most wonderful meal here… every dish was brilliant and absolutely delicious. We didn’t leave a crumb. The service is also excellent and super accommodating. We will be back again and again! What a delight for Stratford to have this restaurant back.

We were looking for a coffee so we stopped at Rene's they didn't have take out coffee so we decided to stay in for one and we got a desert to share it was a bread pudding with ice cream strawberries and blueberries and a sause. It was the best desert we've had . You need a reservation but the let us sit have our coffee and desert . Staff was friendly ,great atmosphere,

I have a weakness for very good food and for a warm atmosphere in which to enjoy a special meal. At 76, Birthdays, in themselves, are no longer seriously critical events. I love to celebrate with good wine and food, at the best of times, but it needn’t be a Special Day/Date. However, there is one thing I have come to appreciate and that is a dinner at René’s Bistro in Stratford, Ontario. And, that dinner must include Braised Lamb Shanks prepared by Owner/Chef René. We travel to Stratford from Niagara for theatre and every time we do, enjoying one of our dinners at René’s is essential. Margaret ( René’s wife and partner) is the "Queen" of the front of house and is so down to earth and friendly it is a joy to walk in each time we visit. If it wasn’t so far to drive (2hrs each way) we would be there more often. We missed our trip to Stratford last year because of the COVID Shutdown and worried that our fave resto would not be there after the shutdown but, somehow Margaret and René made it through. We hope that there are enough guests coming in to enjoy the fantastic fare to essay then through What did we have? Well, as always, we opened with Mussels Marinières which are the largest mussels we’ve had in many moons. For her éntree, my wife had a real challenge deciding the Baked Vegetarian Crȇpes or the Lobster/Shrimp Mac’n’Cheese. The Mac’n’Cheese was very good with plenty of shrimp and the lobster sauce and cheeses were over the top; but her weakness for asparagus seems to have her leaning to he Crȇpes next time. René's are the best braised Lamb Shanks I’ve ever had (save for one, small, Mom and Son 10 seater in Paris where I had to pre-order the day before). The difference is so small was to not be worth talking about. Melt in your mouth, fall off the bone and wonderful braising sauce. A meal, to be sure. As it was My birthday, Margaret brought out a Sorbet with a candle in, despite or saying we had no room for even this as a desert! Mango. MMMnnnnn! Can there be anything better that this to look forward to? Absolutely not. Too bad it is so far from home!

A visit to Stratford would be incomplete for us without dining at Rene's Bistro. This fantastic restaurant moved to a bigger space in 2020 and it's absolutely lovely! What hasn't changed is the inviting atmosphere, and the quality of the food and service is just as excellent as it's always been. Margaret greets us warmly each time, and all safety protocols are in place so that we can relax while enjoying our superbly prepared and presented meals. I highly recommend the peanut butter cheesecake if you have any room left after your first and second courses!
