Courtney was legendary, made the wait for food so much easier. Would do it again now knowing what to order and what not to.

What a terrible experience! Sushi should be a balance of fresh and well-combined flavors. If it tasted greasy and sweet, they probably used ingredients poor proportion, I’ll never go back to that restaurant.

We visited the restaurant for the first time with my family, having high expectations based on the good reviews we had read. The place is nice, small, and cozy, and the service from the waitresses was excellent: kind, patient, and very attentive. They definitely deserve a 10+/10.
However, the sushi was very disappointing. Although the portions are generous, the taste is far from what authentic Japanese sushi should be. The rolls have a clear Western influence (American/Canadian), which might be ideal for those looking for that style, but not for those expecting traditional sushi flavors.
The flavors of the Nori, rice, and main ingredients are completely overshadowed by the overwhelming toppings and sweet sauces. The worst of all was the “Daddy Roll,” which attempted to mimic the flavor of a hamburger with pickles and ended up being a terrible experience. The mango roll was also a big letdown. We tried several types of sushi, hoping to find one that stood out, but none lived up to our expectations.
It’s sad because Kona seems to be more about the name than the flavor. The only thing we really enjoyed was the Kona Original Sauce, which slightly improved the sushi experience.
If you’re looking for authentic sushi, this is not the place. But if you prefer Western-style sushi, it might be a good option for you.

sushi was not good at all… i got a takeout order and the golden dragon was falling apart, the rice was mushy, and it just wasn’t worth the amount of money i spent. very disappointed.

I’ve come to this Kona Sushi location multiple times and it’s always been consistently great. The atmosphere is cool and relaxed, the place inside is cute. The music they play is always a vibe, the staff is very friendly, but not overbearing at all. Never had an issue with the food, it’s always been delicious. It’s our go to date night spot seeing as we’re within walking distance! Love this place.

Good food & great ambience/service.
My 2 cents to the owners, please reduce the portion size of your ‘all-you-can-eat’ menu & serve the vegetarian selections separately. My wife & I were overwhelmed by the enormity of the platters & felt quite bad when we could not finish it all & had to box most of it. We would have preferred to taste quite a few items off that menu had the portion sizes been reasonable. Kudos to our hostess who was kind enough to waive the take-away fee as it was our first time there.

I like this location better than the lakeshore location. It's a smaller restaurant and it seems to have better service and atmosphere.
The sushi isn't the best I've had but good. California rolls ok. Bento boxes are pretty good. The salmon nigiri is good. The chicken or beef teriyaki dishes aren't that great. The Kona sauces are good. Not bad value for food.
Parking is a little tight and limited.

Great unique take on sushi, filling, fresh and satisfying. We've been to two branches and this one was better than Walkersville. Didn't have to pay for parking. Server Nate was very friendly and forward with how things worked. He checked in with us so we didn't over order and get sick or charged. Good vibes, we are a sucker for their playlists and lighting. At first we laughed but then loved the bathroom. 10/10
