The Most Revolting Experience I’ve Ever Had

I honestly don’t know what’s worse — finding what looked like a cat hair (or some other random white hair) in my sandwich, or dealing with the absolute trainwreck of customer service that followed.

Let’s start with the hair: unmistakable, embedded right in the food. I have black hair, so there’s no question it didn’t come from me. When I pointed it out, expecting at least a half-hearted “Sorry about that,” I got nothing — just a cold, blank stare from the girl behind the counter. No apology. No ownership. No basic human decency. I regret not snapping a photo of it when I had the chance.
Instead of taking responsibility, she decided to argue with me. She told me I “shouldn’t have eaten it” — as if I was supposed to perform a forensic inspection on my lunch before taking a bite. When I asked if she genuinely thought that was reasonable, she just stood there staring like I was the problem. She literally asked me if I was here “just to complain”.

And when I took a completely legal photo for my review, she lost it. She actually chased me out of the store rather than addressing the fact that there was a foreign object in my food. Truly unbelievable behaviour — aggressive, immature, and wildly unprofessional. (Her lovely photo is attached to my review.)

Here’s the kicker: she never once admitted anything was wrong. No apology. No empathy. No “let me fix this.” No “can I get you something else.” Nothing. She acted like serving food with hair in it was totally fine and that I was the inconvenience. The only reason I got a refund was because I stood there and refused to leave until she finally shoved cash at me — with visible resentment, as though I were stealing from her. I wish she refunded my tip as well!

To make things even worse, I couldn’t help noticing how warmly and politely she spoke to the white customers who came in while I was there (all smiles and small talk) yet when it came to me, her tone was cold, dismissive, and hostile. I can’t say for sure, but the contrast was hard to ignore. It felt like there might be more to it than just bad service.
Ashanti Coffee Thornbury doesn’t just have a hygiene problem — it has a serious attitude problem, and maybe something even deeper. If this is how they treat paying customers who happen to complain, I can’t imagine what else they sweep under the rug.

Do yourself a favour and avoid this place like the plague. You deserve better than a hair sandwich and a side of hostility.

The barista, Mya, is professional and friendly even to first time visitors. The soy milk latte I ordered was very good. The beans they use are from Zimbabwe. The coffee was slightly bitter which suits my palette and the barista did a great job of making it very smooth even though I chose soy milk. Definitely recommend. Thanks Mya .

It was a super nice lovely local coffee shop. The people were very nice, I love walking into coffee shops feeling like I’m in a hometown and seeing all the beautiful calm decorations. I got a macchiato and my niece a steamer which I love being able to treat the younger kids to nice drinks as well. Lots of options. Very good prices. Very nice people.

A quiet little calf near Georgian Bay, walking distance from the marina and the hotel. Service was quick and easy. Prices are reasonable and the selection is very good.
