May Sushi & Poke

I have to be honest. As a sushi lover, I can taste the freshness of the sashimi and the other ingredients. Surprised because the reviews said the service was good. Took around 20 minutes since we sat down just for water. Asked for the water right when we sat down. One of the female workers here was super rude, also, came on a Wednesday, not busy. Asked the worker for simple questions like the wifi password, and promotions like paying cash = no tax, and she responded with such ignorance and attitude. I took my first bite of my food, the rice is horrible. Looks damp and stale. Honestly, if you drive around 7 minutes to another restaurant nearby, it’s a little more expensive like around $1-4 dollars more, you can tell that all of the ingredients are fresh, and that their rolls are a lot more filling and larger. It’s called aroohwa on Rutherford. Definitely recommend. In conclusion, the atmosphere is so much better than the service and food. Do not recommend, 1 star.

Beef Short Rib set course. Now I order this at almost every Japanese restaurant I go to and in the past its been pretty decent in size and great in taste. Well my last visit almost enraged me. Usually restaurants wont dare to give you more than 2 very small pieces. Well most my eight pieces were small and tiny. Really disrespectful and cheap as hell to not offer more meat. Flavours are still there but the veg under the meat was less as well. Feels like a real penny pinching business now. Poke bowl content looked like less as well.

Although there were a few minor setbacks (e.g., the tempura sauce was a bit watery, and the fried vegetable pieces fell apart quite easily (it was a mess eating them), and so did the sushi pieces), I liked this place. The sauces and dressing (tonkatsu sauce and housing salad dressing) were the classic American Japanese tangy flavours that would satisfy your craving for classic Japanese flavours. (3.5 stars)

My partner and I came here after seeing good reviews about their poke bowls.

Sad to say we were thoroughly disappointed. Their fish isn't seasoned at all, there weren't as many veggies or condiments like other places have and you can tell that some things are canned or frozen. The bowls are edible, but nothing extraordinary.

The waitress was kinda rude, she kept rushing us to order and near the end of our meal, she brought the check over almost right as we finished, it felt like she was kicking us out. It was odd considering the restaurant had plenty of space available.

Safe to say, we will not be returning.

Their healthy poké bowls are the best thus far. The price is reasonable with tons of fresh quality ingredients, and the portions for takeout are pretty good.

We've tried many other places and stumbled upon this place through Uber Eats. We have since ordered countless times, and each time, the high quality is consistent. Highly recommend May's Sushi and Poké bowl!

Great veggie sushis and a large menu, wish the cheese wontons were a little less heavy and oily, but I could not stop eating them, very yummy!
