Mokutan is a cozy izakaya with a booth-style layout, creating a comfortable, intimate atmosphere. It has a very similar vibe and layout to the neighboring Anji Izakaya, but tends to be quieter. The oden soup with beef tendon was especially delicious, although the menu itself is somewhat limited. Parking spaces are also limited, so keep that in mind if you’re planning a visit.

Food was really good. Loved the atmosphere. Servers are super nice.
Got the Mokutan 10 Set skewers, FYI you cannot pick the sauce for the skewer sets, it is chefs choice. You can only pick the sauces for buying individual skewers.
It would be nice to know beforehand but the sauces were all pretty good so it wasnt a big issue. Their super spicy sauce is VERY spicy, my korean husband who loves to torture himself daily with spicy food said it was really spicy even for him. I took a small lick and noped out. So if you love spicy try it!
Overall great place, would come back with friends to try more stuff since we only got the skewers.
Parking was a bit of an issue at the back, might be better to park across the street at galleria or take the bus.

We ordered the 10-skewer set along with half a dozen fresh oysters. Overall, the food was decent, and the service was good. However, note that parking is limited.

This is a place where I wonder why the rating is not higher than 4.5. This is a truly cost-effective restaurant.

Yesterday I went to Mokutan with my friend and ordered sashimi with some skewers.
I usually go every Wednesdays or Thursdays for the past few weeks and I noticed how high they place sashimi on the plate. It was very uncomfortable since everything falls off. I requested to the server if they can flatten down so it doesn’t face straight forward to my friend but didn’t do as I requested. Server kept apologizing and felt bad but was very frustrating..never coming back

All quite tasty, our favourite was the mushroom skewer, spicy chicken skewer, beef tataki and the soup. All had different flavouring left us yearning for more. Our stomach didn't agree but it's fine . The hardest part was finding the door to get in the restaurant without the handle being a different colour the door was flush with the rest of the entrance design.
I would say the menu here has a vast variety than most izakaya I've been to uptown. Raw bar as well as skewers and noodles and soups! Service was well paced so that I was able to make a nice video without the food getting cold. The vibes were quite chill with a good amount of rustle and bustle as the night went on. Would come back to try other items! Don't compare this with Japan experience because it's really unfair. Comparing with others in Toronto this place is pretty good.
What we ate:
- MOKUTAN SET (5 types of ? 2 each)
- SABA SHIOYAKI
- TAKO WASABI
- BEEF TATAKI
- Oysters
- Oyster Bay white wine
- TAKO
- USHIO-JIRU (Clam soup)

The skewers have a delicious fiery flavor, the raw oysters are fresh, and the clam soup is recommended. They are friendly and kind. I will go again.

Great atmosphere and aesthetic. Yakitori was great, the cheap drink menu was even more great! It’s a nice izakaya.

Highly recommended Izakaya in Toronto. They offer so many kinds of skewers. None of them got me disappointed. You can choose either with salt or sauce as well as trying both of them to compare its taste! Other than the skewers, I got fried oysters and shrimp mayo. They are now my favorite bites! It’s a little bit far from downtown, but when you are in the area, you might wanna go there for your dinner.
