Nice tempura. Onsen egg is not worth it though

Japanese restaurant offering various Tempura Rice Bowl (Tendon) options in downtown Toronto

The Tendon sauce had a gentle sweetness and was well-balanced without being overly salty, allowing the natural flavors of the ingredients to come through
The Tempura was impressively crispy with a thin, delicate coating that wasn’t greasy at all

Overall very tasty, especially the udon noodles — they really stood out. The pickled cucumber was also delicious. The miso soup was a bit salty, and the tempura was slightly greasy. A few pieces of fish tempura had a slight fishy smell. It’s a little on the pricey side, but still a very enjoyable meal.

Respectfully there’s really only one server working with all the tables, it took forever to get their attention and don’t get me started with the wait. We order a tempura set, and some other food. Js the appetiser took at least 10 mins or more to arrive, we might have sat there for more than half an hour after the appetiser just for the tempura set. I think an average wait time for a set or meal is around 20-30 minutes. Whoever gave more than 2 stars must have got paid.

Although the delivery and pick up seems to be way quicker. So overall if you’re not in a rush, it’s not too bad.

Great authentic Tendon. I came here three times and I always feel their rice is somehow 90% and they can improve... maybe their rice is not worm? Not sure why. Still like the food.

Tendon was great. Onsen egg is a must! Little reminiscent of Tokyo. Friendly staff. Food was very slow.

Mediocre food…. Tempura is def pre made and re- heated. Tempura at sushi SYCE is def better. Eel is at the quality of those they you can get from grocery stores.
No water was served for 10 mins.
Had to call the server multiple times to get our order in.
Took 50 mins for our food to come.
Portion is so small too
Who is actually giving this place high ratings? Definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND

I visited the restaurant for lunch.
It took 1 hour to get my food.
They were busy but only one waitress was working.

AVOID the tempura, especially anything with SEAFOOD.
Went here for dinner yesterday night and honestly, it was a really bad experience. We ordered the Asakusa Tendon and Ebi Tendon, and both were super disappointing. The salmon and eel tempura tasted really fishy and not fresh at all. The tempura was greasy and soggy.

After we got home, we ended up getting sick, vomiting and diarrhea. Never ever ordering seafood here again, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone else do either.

I visited Tokyo Asakusa Shitamachi Tendon Akimitsu in Toronto and tried their Unagi Tendon (eel tempura bowl) — and it was nothing short of excellent. The eel was tender, buttery, and perfectly encased in a light, crisp tempura batter. It had that delicate balance between richness and smokiness that you expect from good unagi, but with the added texture of the tempura coating.

The tendon sauce tied everything together — sweet, savory, and glossy without overpowering the natural flavors of the seafood. The rice underneath was well-cooked and absorbed just enough sauce to stay flavorful without getting soggy.

It’s not easy to execute tempura this well, especially with something as delicate as eel, but Akimitsu nailed it. If you’re looking for a satisfying and expertly fried tendon experience in Toronto, this is definitely the place.
