I visited Tokyo Asakusa Shitamachi Tendon Akimitsu in Toronto and tried their Unagi Tendon (eel tempura bowl) — and it was nothing short of excellent. The eel was tender, buttery, and perfectly encased in a light, crisp tempura batter. It had that delicate balance between richness and smokiness that you expect from good unagi, but with the added texture of the tempura coating.

The tendon sauce tied everything together — sweet, savory, and glossy without...
I had the tempura udon ebi set, the tempura udon asakusa set, and takokayi. I enjoyed the tempura ebi set, good portions, big shrimp tempuras, udon tasted flavorful. The Asakusa set is similar but comes with less shrimp tempura and other stuff like tempura fish (salmon?). I did not enjoy the asakusa set nearly as much as the ebi set. Takokayi was cooked well and tasted great. The service was average, 1 time they got the wrong udon set. I suggest staff write down all the orders...
Just an average tempura restaurant in Toronto—nothing special and didn’t meet my expectations.
The tempura batter was a little bit thick, and the rice portion was too small.
The eel didn’t taste fresh enough.
