The Tendon sauce had a gentle sweetness and was well-balanced without being overly salty, allowing the natural flavors of the ingredients to come through
The Tempura was impressively crispy with a thin, delicate coating that wasn’t greasy at all
Overall very tasty, especially the udon noodles — they really stood out. The pickled cucumber was also delicious. The miso soup was a bit salty, and the tempura was slightly greasy. A few pieces of fish tempura had a slight fishy smell. It’s a little on the pricey side, but still a very enjoyable meal.
I visited Tokyo Asakusa Shitamachi Tendon Akimitsu in Toronto and tried their Unagi Tendon (eel tempura bowl) — and it was nothing short of excellent. The eel was tender, buttery, and perfectly encased in a light, crisp tempura batter. It had that delicate balance between richness and smokiness that you expect from good unagi, but with the added texture of the tempura coating.
