I get why people like this place: the food is fancy, the service is superb, the space is expansive.
So it might just be personal tastes that leave me underwhelmed with the food. Been a couple of times and tried a few things on the menu (most recently the famed burger), and I'm left wanting for more. In a vacuum, it's objectively pretty good. It's just that I've gotten tastier dishes elsewhere for what you pay or even cheaper.
Not for me. But it always seems full, so maybe don't take my word for it.
The food is delish, dessert being the best part, but expect no service. We came as a table of 8. Also, beware when making reservations as they charged us for the reservation fee and didn't deduct that from our bill.

Since last time we had dinner in Alobar Yorkville, we haven't got to Alo group for more than a year. We have high expectations as the Alobar Yorkville experience is quite good. This time, we had a chance to have dinner at Alobar Downtown. Upon arrival, we found out this location, had more seats, and focused more on prime steaks on the menu. We ordered the bread, New York Striploin, and confit duck pasta. After 20 mins, our server told us they were running out of bread, so we ordered cocktail prawns to substitute. The steak comes out nicely to medium rare, definitely a good quality and value for the price. The duck confit pasta is not as good as the Yorkville location because the pasta is a bit undercooked, in my opinion, and a bit on the salty side. Then, to our surprise, the bread came! Don't get me wrong, our server is a nice guy, but he's a bit miserable. We asked the waitress who brought us the bread, and she said there's always bread in our location. We ended up packing half of the bread to go. I felt like our server is lying as well because he might felt that we didn't order $100 or above per person. Honestly, I usually ordered enough and not preferred to pack home. Also, our server promised to include non-alcoholic sparkling wine for our celebration, and it never came. Finally, the bill came and overcharged by $14. Overall, not a highly recommended dining spot. Black and Blue is just across the street. They are more welcome and less pushy for ordering food.

Unfortunately as much I enjoyed the food and service. The evening was ruined by the level of noise in the restaurant. You can not have a conversation without screaming to each other.
As a michelin stars this should be taking under

Consider yourself warned!
We went with some co-workers- total 6ppl- on a Tuesday afternoon for the “Happy” hour. The place was empty and we were asked if we had a reservation to begin with. The service and servers were very confused as we have 4 different servers checking up on us and yet the drinks were late or forgotten. Again the place was empty !
I ordered wine so I can’t speak for quality of drinks but my friends ordering Tommy’s Margarita and they said it was respectable.
The menu for happy hour was extremely overpriced even by financial district standards. I ordered “lobster tail” which was basically t total 2 tea spoon worth of cold lobster on a bed of lettuce and nori sheet with some mayo and was charged $24 for it .I am not kidding ! One of my friends ordered the tuna tartar which was basically the same concept. The fries were mediocre at best served in a small cone shaped cup but you could tell it was fried in a dark old oil for the price of $12. I mean McDonald fries would have been far more superior!
Another friend ordered the $40 burger and fries which was the ONLY substantial option for happy hour, she reported it was very salty and really not worth the $40 they were charging for it. The burger came with the same $12 fries.
Basically, the entire menu for happy hour is designed in such a way that if you wanted a good food option for drinking you had to take the plunge and order the $40 burger $ fries .
The wrap up they messed up our bills 3 times, again the place was empty !!!!
Lastly we were told that we need to leave by 5:45 or move to the dining room section to order food! Again the place was empty !!!
Are you kidding me ?
I think we owe it to each other to write honest reviews as I truly believe business shouldn’t be allowed to conduct business in such a way. We are not going back and I don’t recommend this place at all.

The service and decor were the only redeeming aspects of this experience. The food was an utter disgrace, with nothing done right. There was a complete lack of coordination between the front of house and the kitchen regarding our orders and allergy considerations.
The duck with pasta was atrocious, and the spicy duck confit was unacceptably tough and poorly textured. The most shocking dish was the Provimi Veal Schnitzel with mustard jus and caramelized shallots. It was an absolute travesty—overloaded with capers, poorly cooked meat, and a disgrace to the traditional schnitzel recipe.
The appetizers were similarly appalling, lacking in both flavor and presentation. Even the fries were badly prepared and unappetizing.
To make matters worse, the desserts were no better—large, unappealing, and evidently stale. They were not fresh and only added to the disappointment.
My question to the manager is: Is there actually a chef in charge of this kitchen? If so, they need to either drastically improve their skills or consider a different profession entirely.

Food was ok but nothing spectacular, the service was amazing as you would expect at this price point. Atmosphere was stuffy but to be expected in the area

Had an excellent meal here tonight. The food was just excellent (i had the scallop to start and Duck Parpadelle as a main) and a good wine list.
The service was brilliant - the guy with glasses who looked after me was very friendly and knowledgeable.
I look forward to returning!

Alobar downtown is NOT at all like Alobar Yorkville, sadly.
Service was fair, but overall vibe and food was high-end cafeteria style (sorta like Canteen at the TIFF building). As regulars at Alobar Yorkville we had high expectations, but they didn’t pan out. It was a lot of little things… from decor and lighting, to the pacing of the meal. I fully get that it’s a different audience downtown and this location is catering to that; but maybe don’t call it Alobar because it sets the wrong expectation.
I say all this with love, because I respect the Alo brand and Chef Kriss so much! Wish you all the best team. See you at one of the other locations.
