The Avenue Road Diner has been around since 1944. Although I lived up the street from 1969 for about 30 years, I had never been there. The food was delicious, the service great, staff friendly.

DO NO EAT HERE ! The only thing diner about this place is the name.

The order:
Western Omelette. No peppers, virtually a spec of onions, overcooked, supposed to be 3 eggs, definitely only 2 w/water added to stretch the dish. Home fries are saturated in oil, not crispy or seasoned. Served with the low end white wonderbread for toast. That’s all there was on plate for $18.95. Not a slice of tomato or a piece a fruit that you would usually get at a diner. Coffee not included as well. Not even a jam for your toast.

Grilled Cheese: White wonderbread with 1 Kraft single as the cheese for $10. It didn’t even cover the bread. It was a sad sandwich. Not sure what they put on the bread when grilling it but it had this Crispy greasy texture on the outside. I couldn’t eat it after one bite.

Asked if fries are homemade. Nope frozen fries and they charge $7 for them. Thankfully we decided to take a pass on them.

Orange juice is Tropicana. Nothing fresh squeezed in that dept. a ridiculous price of $4.95

The guy cooking over the grill wasn’t wearing a hair net. Goes against the rules for safe dining.

I can honestly say this is more then a disappointment for the price. It’s disgusting.

Also cash only with a phony old fashion receipt.

Good basic breakfast options, good coffee, service was really friendly. I love that the toast was actually toasted and not just a slice of warmed bread.

I appreciatetd the historic charm of this place, having been around since 1944. The atmosphere is really warm, which is lovely. However, I found that the food didn’t quite meet my expectations and didn’t leave a lasting impression that would draw me back. I also noticed that they only accept cash, which is inconvenient in today’s digital age., though they did mention that beforehand and ATM machine is available at their restaurant. Anyways that doesn’t change anything especially when I look at from a customer experience perspective.

It was a nice, very old and interesting place. However is it very expensive for that simple food. I paid $40 for a veggie omelette and a coffee with a side of bacon.

One of the last remaining old-school diners in Toronto.

15 minutes to get the food at the counter, 10 minutes to get coffee refill, <5 seconds after the last bite the bill lands on the counter. Their welcome phrase is:”we are cash only…there is an ATM downstairs “.
The food? Not the best. The problem is that there are no alternatives for a diner around, since Flo closed.

Wonderful classic diner with excellent all day breakfast options and a rich history in the neighbourhood! A true cornerstone of the community.

I go here every few weeks on weekends for the best breakfast food.
The family owned diner is so nice and cook so well. THEY MAKE THE BEST BREAKFAST POTATOES!

Vegetarian options: i always ask for no bacon and substitute it with their fresh tomatoes from their garden

For all the decades I've been in this neighbourhood yesterday was the first time I made it to the Avenue Diner. In the past whenever I walked by it was always packed with customers or I didn't have the time to stop for something to eat. Vintage diner decor with the walls covered in celebrity photos, many of whom I am unfamiliar with. Service is quick and friendly and just after 1 o'clock on a Thursday there was lots of seating available. The tuna club was great and I also ordered an order of fries. Sanpellegrino s.p.a. drinks available. This gem is scheduled to close at the end of 2024 and I hope to revisit it before it's demolished for new condo development at the corner of Avenue Rd and Davenport. $25-30 pp. Cash only, ATM on site. Limited pay parking on surrounding streets available. Closed Mondays. Weekdays 11-3, Weekends 9:30-3.
