Great little restaurant! Our server was nice and our food was fresh and fast. Delicious too! My only complaint was the home fries, they had a strong lemon/sour/vinegar taste. Everything else was 10/10!

This place is a wonderful hole in the wall that will satisfy any of your cravings!

My parents travel to Toronto often, and they told me this place was really good, so they took me there to try it. OH. MY. GOSH! The Montreal smoked meat is a wonderful addition to your breakfast plate, the home fries are cooked perfectly, and the portion sizes are big, so you can bring leftovers home.

The *ONLY* reason I gave the atmosphere a 4/5 stars is because of the small space. You have to really pay attention to what you are doing so you don’t run into people. With a place like this getting very busy, be weary of when you go so you can get a seat. If you have to wait to get in, it is very worth the wait.

Avenue Open Kitchen feels like stepping straight into old Toronto. A true blue-collar diner tucked into an old townhouse just off Spadina, serving unapologetically hearty classics: peameal bacon, Montreal-style smoked meat, bacon and eggs.
I had the Montreal-style sandwich. It was generous, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. The owner even added the pickle, exactly as any proper Montreal sandwich deserves.
The place was packed for breakfast, which tells you everything you need to know.
The bathroom is up a set of rickety back stairs that practically sing early 20th-century Toronto. Any downtown lifer will recognize the vibe instantly. Small but clean.
If you’re looking for polished brunch, this isn’t it. If you want honest food, big portions, and a slice of classic Toronto soul, this is your spot.

First timers visiting here. The food was hot and delicious. I had a Montreal smoked meat sandwich and my wife a BLT. So next time we are in the area, we will go for lunch again. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Friendly and comfortable spot with decent food. The burgers have great value and the portion sizes are quite large; some other things were a little expensive, but overall a satisfying spot to grab some brunch!

Old school diner , with four tables and eight stools. Food came out very very quickly. Only negative was being charged seven dollars for a simple glass of orange juice.

I'm disappointed... that I didn't know about this place earlier.

Was looking for fish & chips on Queen St. (which is surprisingly tough to find), and stumbled upon Avenue Open on Ritual. Fish was good, generous with the tartar, excellent fries, fresh salad. Service was friendly and punctual. Can't ask for much more. Will definitely be back!

A classic, local hidden gem of a “diner”. Staff are friendly and the food is exceptional. Shout out to the breakfast potatoes. If you’re within walking distance and are hungry avenue open kitchen will sort you right out. Brilliant place!

Very small place. What you’d expect from a “hole in the wall” type restaurant. Staff was very friendly and the food was prepared very quickly. Very good and straightforward breakfast. Nothing fancy, but good homemade-style food.

Wanted to have affordable breakfast outside and found out about this place which seemed nice on the reviews. Went in at around 2 p.m. which was slow and they were about to close in a hour or so. Received not much attention during the meal except fast order taking and food making.

Food was good, tried the peameal bacon and egg sandwich. A very simple sandwich yet delicious.

Did not even look at me when saying thank you when I was paying my bill. Made me feel like I was a pest or that my dining there was not appreciated. Completely tarnished my whole experience dining here.

Such a great neighbourhood gem! I’ve been coming here for a few years and it’s been consistently good. Great breakfast and amazing Montreal smoked meat. In fact possibly the best smoked meat in Toronto. Served freshly cut, with your choice of mustard and on rye bread. It doesn’t get more authentic!
