The drink was refreshing, but it wasn’t exactly my personal taste. It might just be a matter of preference. However, the cafe itself has a really nice atmosphere. It feels very much like a university cafe, a great place to sit, study, or meet friends. The space is bright, cozy, and welcoming. Overall, it’s a nice spot to spend some time.

Only good thing is the atmosphere and interior. Under staffed so the service is slow and they messed up our order. Finally got the order of Blueberry lemonade and an iced latte and they were quite bad. I have had Balzacs in years past and there latte I remember being good. This tasted stale and cheap - almost burnt.

Nice spot to study on the TMU campus. Gluten free chocolate chip cookies, cashew butter cookies and a few salad options. Lots of dairy free milk alternatives, however make sure to triple check that the proper milk is used as I’ve had my drinks made with regular milk a few times now even after double checking my milk choice.
Group tables usually have a space available, although two-seater tables near the windows are often full.
All washrooms are single stall and only accessible with a passcode. They are often occupied or a bit unkempt.

Whoever worked on evening of Jan 25, quit your job. So bad, like actually laughably bad. Rubbing 2 brain cells together to take an order needs to be on the job description because there was an obviously skill gap. Wrong order, bad drink, horrible attitude, you name it they got it!

The drinks are ok, nothing special. I order salted caramel latte with 50% less sweet, however, it’s still too sweet for me. The space is spacious, tho. It looks warm and gives a Christmas vibe very much when looking from outside. The service is okay, not friendly, not giving the local, neighborhood feeling, maybe because it’s inside the TMU area, the majority of the customers is TMU students, not residents.

I ordered an iced latte and the espresso was extremely sour. The citrus notes were so strong and bright that the whole drink tasted way too acidic. This is the first time I couldn’t even finish an iced latte, really disappointed.

The space is pretty and clean, with lots of seating. The drink tasted good, just as you'd expect it to taste.
However, the barista holding my finished drink while chatting with a coworker, instead of just putting the drink on the counter and finishing her conversation after really ruined it for me today.

40 gould st location just walked in there with two young children I was told I needed to buy something before I could use the washroom and I let her know I am going to purchase something but my children just need to use the washroom and she refuse to let my children use the washroom. What a disgusting behavior a small little gestures that make customer service work. I walked out of there without buying anything. She could’ve just been understanding to see that I have two small ones I’m not gonna hold coffee and then go to the washroom. Where would I put the coffee?

If there was a zero star option I would have given it. The ladies who work here are rude! I had to use the washroom as I am pregnant and has a crying 2 year old. I said it was urgent and would purchase something as soon as I got out. THEY REFUSED! And the staff continued to be rude and say rude things when I said this is not ethical. Worst cafe I have ever been to!

We were gonna buy something but really had to use the washroom first as it was urgent. By the looks of our appearance we were literally gonna buy something after using we weren’t gonna use the washroom and dip. The staff was a bully. Hence, I am giving a one star review for this. Make me beg, you get a 1 star review then.

Such a cafe! (It’s a student place) without any accessible ports for charging
I do like Balzac’s coffee in general. This location is right on the TMU campus, and just because their main customers are students doesn’t mean you should mess up the coffee. It was bad. And expensive!
