What a lovely historic place to spend time and appreciate the time. While i didnt find anything extraordinary about coffee; ambiance and staff makes it beautiful. Welcoming and soothing!

Smashing IT! ☕😁☕️
Historical Site.
This is by far the most charming place to have coffee in Toronto.
Nestled in the heart of the historical Distillery District, Balzac has done a fabulous job in maintaining the historical significant of the building they serve coffee in.
This building is definitely an eye wonder that you can't take your eyes off.
So pull up a chair and savor the coffee or tea that you just ordered because you're going to want to hang out Herr for a long time to take in all of its wonderful splendor.

Poor management. We were kept standing in line for more than half an hour outside in cold while they were no customers in line inside. No explanation was provided either.

Guys pls stop selling hot chocolate.. it was pathetic.. not worth the 45 min wait we had in the freezing cold and the quality of hot chocolate, well tim Hortons serves hot chocolate that's a 100 times better than wot u guys serve for 1/5th of the price..
Pls stop fleecing ppl with substandard products ...
Never again...

Took 45 minutes to get a $10 cup of hot chocolate at their hot chocolate shack outside. I understand the prices will be inflated in these types of events. However, when I saw that the hot chocolate was literally just Neilson Chocolate Milk heated up, I realized it was a waste of time and money. After we purchased our hot chocolate, we tried to enter the indoor cafe and were denied access with vague instructions from irritated staff directing us to "line up" beside the door. We tried to enter the cafe prior because certain people (not employees) would be able to enter without waiting in line. Additionally, while we were waiting outside in line to get in, they would let other people that werent waiting in line inside before addressing the group of people that they've instructed to line up. I understand there may have been capacity issues, but it's unacceptable considering the Christmas market has been running for over a month and there's no basic communication or organization from a place that is a busy shop during these times. We chose to get our hot chocolate from Balzac's because they're known for their quality but this experience was incredibly disappointing and was a blatant money grab that stains the reputation of this company from a former consumer.

good service
Got hot chocolate with marshmallow. Totally disappointed. Paid $10 for a cheap cup of hot chocolate. Hot chocolate is not fresh at all.

Awesome atmosphere. Nice seating and style of building. Some vegan options for sweets. Little too much sugar. The maple latte has no maple flavour at all. It just tastes like bitter coffee. I was disappointed with it and even tho it was so expensive I had to throw it out

My friends and I went to try out their hot chocolate. They normally have a really long line but it was rainy so I think we lucked out.
I like how they have a separate booth in front of the store just for their specialty hot chocolates. Honestly they all sound delicious, but I selected the s’mores hot chocolate because of the flaming marshmallow.
In terms of aesthetic, the presentation is a 5/5. The generous amount of whipped cream, burning marshmallow, and chocolate syrup is a great touch. In terms of taste, it is around a 3.5/5? Maybe 4/5? It’s your average hot chocolate with a spritz of liquid smoke to give you the taste of campfire. In my opinion, I think it’s a bit too strong, but I understood the vibe they were going for. It’s something that I’ll get once to try, but I personally wouldn’t order this again. Maybe next time I’ll try the cookie hot chocolate?
As for the tiramisu hot chocolate, my friend would also rate it around a 3.75/5. It’s your average hot chocolate with a generous amount of chocolate on top of the whipped cream and a lovely lady finger. It was good, but you expect more for a $10 hot chocolate.

Absolutely a must-do during the Christmas market. The peppermint flavor is perfect, and the service was quick and organized, despite the crowd. There's a reason it's popular!

Although this location has great ambiance, location, and flavor; the service I experienced was absolutely HORRENDOUS.
I came in and was literally ignored for 5 mins despite being the only person in line.
When another customer came in behind me, the barista tried 3 times to bypass my order and serve the person behind me, saying I had already ordered and just belligerently doing all he could do to NOT serve me. It was ridiculous. Absolutely unacceptably terrible service.
