Had my birth-day lunch on this place and loved everything. The staff were nice. Fish tacos were great. Will definitely come back.

Decent food and drinks! Fairly portioned and priced as well. It has a nice patio to spend a chill afternoon having a drink.

My girlfriend and I came in to sit on the patio, and right away the server had an attitude. We asked to sit outside, and he pointed to a section with dirty tables. We asked if we could sit in the cushioned seats instead, and he just gave us a fed-up look and walked off without saying anything. Super uncomfortable.

We ended up finding a different cushioned spot and sat ourselves. While we waited, I peeled a tangerine for my girlfriend, and when the server came back with menus, the first thing he said was, ā€œYou can’t have outside food here, man. That’s just, like, so wrong.ā€ I get it—rules are rules—but it was just a tangerine and the way he said it felt really off.

At that point, I went to the bar to order instead, and the bartender (who’s always great) tried to make light of the situation and said he’d speak to the server. While I was inside, my girlfriend saw him give another customer the same cold attitude, even slamming menus down on their table.

I don’t know what was going on with him today, but it totally threw off the experience. We still like this place and we’ll come back—but that kind of energy really needs to be addressed.

The chosen one

I’ve been coming to Bank Note Bar for the past two years because it’s right across from where I live, and honestly, I’ve never had a bad experience—until today.

From the moment we walked in, the server who greeted us had a noticeable attitude. My boyfriend and I asked for a table for two on the patio, and instead of welcoming us or even making eye contact, he just pointed toward the left side of the patio, where several tables were still dirty. We asked politely if we could sit in the cushioned lounge chairs instead, and he didn’t even respond—just looked annoyed and walked away. It made us feel super uncomfortable, so we just sat where he originally pointed.

While we were waiting, my boyfriend peeled a tangerine for me (we hadn’t even ordered yet), and when the server came back with the menus, the first thing he said was, ā€œYou can’t have outside food here, man. You know that’s just, like, so wrong.ā€ I get it—rules are rules—but it’s a single piece of fruit on an outdoor patio. His tone felt unnecessarily rude and shaming.

What really solidified our discomfort was seeing him treat another customer almost the exact same way. A guy came in and asked to sit outside, and the same server gave him attitude and told him to just ā€œpick a table.ā€ When the man chose one near the door, the server came back with menus and literally slammed them down on the table before walking away in a huff. No friendly greeting, no kindness—just straight-up hostility.

Strangely enough, he seemed perfectly fine and even friendly with a few other guests, which made things feel even more off. At that point, I told my boyfriend to just go to the bar and order there because this server was honestly ruining our whole experience.

Shoutout to the bartender (wish I remembered his name!)—I see him all the time and he did his best to make the situation lighter. He acknowledged what was happening and said the server was having a rough day and that he’d talk to him, which I appreciated.

I don’t know if this server needs to take the rest of the day off or go through some retraining, but something was definitely not okay today. The energy he brought to the patio was aggressive and unwelcoming.

That said, this is still one of our favorite local spots and we’ll definitely be back—but I really hope this gets addressed. No one deserves to be treated like a nuisance for simply coming in to enjoy a drink and a bite.

Best onion rings in the city! Unfortunately as a vegetarian there is very little I can eat here and was told they took their veggie burger off the menu. It's too bad. I'd love to come back, but a girl can't live on onion rings alone šŸ˜ž

Has potential but has terrible service. My server was blonde with a bun. I ordered chicken fingers with poutine. She was closing the patio when my food was ready I waited. After five minutes, I went to the counter to collect my food. She gaslighters me telling me it just came up. My poutine had grated cheese. Again, she gaslit me telling me the curds weren't on the menu. I told her curds are a fundamental Ingredient of poutine and therefore are implied. She asked if there is something else so I said I'll just have fries and she took the poutine after two bites. Her colleague and her gossiped and were looking at me. She then ended up charging me for the poutine that I didn't eat
