Girls’ night out on Friday—and what a fantastic evening! It was just the girls night out, but the food absolutely stole the show. The pizza dough is honestly one of the best in Toronto—beautifully chewy with a perfect bite—and they were generous with the cheese and mushrooms. Every slice was a dream.
The calamari was tender with a perfectly crisp coating, and the meatballs were packed with flavour, nestled in a tomato sauce that was fresh, bright, and absolutely delicious. It’s rare to find a tomato sauce that good—clearly made with care and love.
The service was just as memorable. Our server (I wish I remembered her name!) was so attentive and kind—she mentioned she studies at the University of Toronto, which is just across the street.
I can’t recommend Bar Mercurio enough. I’ll definitely be bringing my students there the next time we’re in Toronto. It's right across from the ROM—an ideal spot for a post-museum meal!

We had an early dinner here before going to a play this past weekend - we were staying a block away at the Kimpton St George Hotel (which also is wonderful!) and decided to try the restaurant without any reservations. The server we had was Jill and she was cheerful, efficient and accommodating to the 6 of us. When we arrived, it was not very busy and the music seemed too loud for us since we wanted to be able to talk (we are in our 60's) Jill turned the music down for us and they made sure we were out in time for our show.
We shared some pizzas for appetizers, and I had the filei Calabrese pasta alla Nerano - the pomodoro sauce is out of this world!, Also had the Caesar salad and the dressing is one of the best I've ever had. Wish we had time for dessert! Definitely give this authentic Italian restaurant a try.

Authentic Italian restaurant with heart and soul. Enjoyed it so much we returned for dinner twice during our 5-day stay in Toronto. Prices were fair, house wine was excellent. Service competent and friendly. Highly recommend!
“get off the couch and pickup the best pizza pepperoni in town” - Giuseppe Mercurio.
Had dinner here, and opted for the classic margherita pizza, which tasted as good as any I've had around Italy.
I also had a dirty martini, which was delcious. I'm from London so am used to the tiny glasses they give you for drinks, here they give you double the size of a drink, so great value for money.
The staff are very friendly too.
Paid $35 for a charcuterie board which included 2 pieces of feta cheese, a pile of mortadella, some pickled peppers and 4 tiny pieces of procuttio.... not impressed with that AT ALL.
I ordered a negroni, and a classic margherita pizza. The negroni was divine, made to absolute perfection, and the pizza was to die for. It was cooked with incredible skill, and served by a lovely young woman by the name of Madeline who I had the pleasure of meeting. She was extremely kind and welcoming, with an astonishingly positive attitude. Amazing service all around.
Happenstance brought us to Bar Mercurio, and thank goodness it did. What we thought would be just a pre-game snack turned into a full-blown, warm and welcoming dinner experience. If you're craving that feeling of stepping into a cozy café tucked away in Italy, this is it. The atmosphere, the food, and the people were authentic and heartfelt. Especially the people!!
And their not-so-secret weapon? Nona Francesca! For us, she's the heart of the place, and trust me, you’ll feel it in every bite. If you love pizza and enjoy a real-deal Caesar salad, this spot should be at the top of your list. Hands down, it was the best sourdough pizza we've ever had and only later did we find out they've actually been voted the best sour dough pizza in Toronto. Totally deserved. We also had the olives, rigatoni and meatballs. Yum! We left nothing behind. Anything we could not finish came home with us for a midnight snack. Thank you to Nonna and the team! It was the best pre-game dinner we have had and we will to return to enjoy the chaucuterie!

The sourdough pizza was something to savour - I did not want it to end.
Sitting at the bar is the best.

Last Saturday the 23rd my wife & I had such a great time at Bar Mercurio.
The food is outrageousily good.
You ring the doorbell & they let you in as if you were visiting family, that's so cool.

Was there last night with my family, celebrating my birthday. We live pretty far but try to make it downtown every now and then, specifically to eat here, and as always, it was wonderful. The sourdough crust on the pizzas are my favorite, the special burger with caramelized onions was wonderful for my mother who can't eat cheese, the wine recommendation was excellent, and the panettone was heavenly. We ordered another panettone to take home, and it's now finished as we devoured it entirely the next morning. It's the best panettone I've ever had, and I've had a lot. Jill did a great job with recommendations and keeping track of what was a chaotic order. She was friendly, conversational, and knowledgeable of the menu. Jacomina and Giuseppe were wonderful hosts as always and made us feel at home. Can't wait until our next trip there.
