The food and service were generally fine. Many of us enjoyed the Summerliciouce menu. It was creative and well plated. We dined as a group of 7 people. The restaurant policy is that groups of 8 or more are subject to a built in gratuity. Our group of 7 was charged with this same gratuity. It seemed excessive and was clearly not the policy of the place. I appreciate that a service gratuity is expected, and we did not, at the time, contest this addition to our bill. In retrospect we should have. It is either a policy or not. It seemed arbitrarily applied in our case. I am certain the group would have tipped appropriately in any case. Any comment?

The Summerlicious menu had choices to suit a variety of tastes. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and made sure that we were happy with the meal choices. Can't wait for Winterlicious.

Unfortunately this restaurant IS NOT OPEN for happy hour any longer even though the website states it is. I have made the trek 3 times in the past year only to find the same sign on the door ....closed until 5.
I called this past Thursday evening to ask if they had happy hour. The worker said yes...every weekday 2 to 5. When I arrived Friday afternoon it was closed as per usual.
Do not make the trip.

As long as the owners are at the restaurant, food is consistently good. Everything is prepared from scratch with fresh ingredients. As a regular, I like the variety of the weekly menu specials offered. Food restrictions or preferences are accommodated by the kitchen. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto and I feel fortunate to have crossed paths with Barnsteiner's.🥂

We've been many times infrequently the past several years but this was the best!! Our waiter was OUTSTANDING - refined, smart, and more than pleasant and informative. The food was the best I've ever had there. Menu was expansive with great choices and alternatives (love the idea of a 1/2 salad!). Truly a perfect dining experience. I think Barnsteiners has upped their game and would HIGHLY recommend!!!

Barnsteiners is reliably excellent each time I visit. The food was quite excellent. Older clientele which is nice, and quieter noise level. Prices reasonable and service very good. Highly recommend this neighbourhood restaurant.
Our neighbourhood place. Usually pretty good but it seems that kitchen was a little overwhelmed tonight with how busy it got. Seafood a bit too charred in the pasta dish. Salad and risotto was very good as it usually it is. Very noisy tonight, no fault of the restaurant but something to keep in mind if you're looking for quiet.

The food was delicious and I appreciated that they could alter dishes for the food sensitivities that my friend and I have. We also sat in the separate room to the left and it was lovely and quiet for us oldies. Thus my review as quiet. In the main rain it was noisier. Thank you

We waited and waited and waited for our food . Others around us arrived , ordered and ate ... we waited . No apologies no explanation but with the bill came a piece of bread pudding . Extremely annoying . My blackened haddock was dry without mayo I had to ask another server to bring the sauce as our server once dumping food on our table never came back to see if all was ok. Eaten there many times but first time service and food were so frustratingly bad .
