I debated writing a review because I want to support local businesses. However, given the price of these cakes, I felt it was important to share my experience.
To begin on a positive note, I purchased the cherry ribbon cake in lemon strawberry, and it was absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, once we cut into it, the experience went downhill and no one finished their slice, and the cake ultimately went uneaten. The cake itself had an unusual flavour so much so that the birthday girl commented it tasted like tart chicken. Both the cream filling and icing had a waxy texture and taste. I read the negative reviews before I purchased this cake but wanted to experience for myself. Now I wished I listened to those reviews. If you’re gonna spend 80+ dollars on a cake, spend a little more and get a beautiful cake that actually tastes good or save your $$ and get an ice cream cake.

I ordered a cake for my daughter’s first birthday and it was inedible. The cake looked beautiful but the flavour was awful. The cake was dense and dry. When my daughter rejected it, we thought something was wrong so we tried it… we couldn’t believe how even a 1 year old refused to eat something so bad. The entire cake went into the garbage. What a waste of $60!!!!

I rarely write reviews, but I wanted to share my experience. The cupcakes themselves were decent and tasted good, however the service really disappointed me, which is why I’m giving a low score.
I visited on a Saturday afternoon and ordered 18 cupcakes. I noticed I had credit on my Ritual account, so I mentioned I would place the order through Ritual. The staff member helping me immediately said they don’t use Ritual, even though I had successfully ordered through it just two days earlier. When I pointed that out, she became awkward and simply said, “Do whatever is best for you,” then walked away without offering an explanation or asking for a moment to prepare the order.
We were left standing there without any direction while she attended to other tasks. Eventually she came back and packed our order. There was no smile, no thank you, and no basic customer courtesy. We paid over $100 plus tax for 18 cupcakes, and while the cupcakes tasted fine, the overall experience felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming.
With so many great bakery options in Toronto, service really matters. Unfortunately, this experience made me feel discouraged from returning, regardless of the product quality.

We absolutely recommend pastel bakes! We were blown away by their customer service and the quality of the cake they made was outstanding. The cake looked even better than we imagined it would and the taste was amazing. We had the chocolate cake and the cake was so rich, dense, and moist! My daughter and her friends all raved about how good it was. The chocolate mousse layers were so tasty as well and balanced it perfectly. To top it all off the gorgeous clear box it arrived in was a perfect presentation of this gorgeous cake!

My friends got me a beautiful birthday cake for my 40th birthday and it was lovely to look at but the taste….. was tasteless, the icing had no sweetness to it at all, it just tasted waxy and left a weird texture in the mouth. It was also dry and just generally disappointing. No one finished their slice and the rest of the cake went in the trash. Not sure what happened, but it took us a while to decide to decide to share the experience. It made us sad, we were really excited for it.
Great little café in the city! The service was friendly and efficient, and the space was spotless. Perfect spot for a quick coffee or a relaxed break.

I stumbled upon pastel cafe on instagram and thought their cakes/cupcakes and ambiance looked appealing but I could never fully recommend them until I had tried them for myself. The whole experience has been seamless from the owner/baker’s recommendation to accommodation - to my very late request, to the beautiful details she made on the cake that were to my liking, to the phenomenal taste - rich & creamy and just right! I can’t possibly recommend them enough.

We hired Cafe Pastel/Pastel Bakes to bake our wedding cake and it was perfect!!! Their team was very friendly and communicative, and we were able to custom design the cake to a photo I sent with some extra details. The cake was delicious, and we are so happy with how it turned out! Would definitely recommend Pastel Bakes!

Recently ordered a cake from here for the first time and it was delicious. No complains about the taste and execution, but when I was picking up my order, the lady behind the counter whose name I didn’t catch (light hair, british accent) needs to drop her attitude, she made me feel absolutely unwelcome there. She couldn’t find my order and was getting visibly irritated by it. Smile and simple “thank you ” goes a long way. I will definitely order something from this bakery again, but will choose a delivery next time instead of pick up.
